Factor Sound Deadning
So I discovered today looking at my floor that it appears the floor has like little metal bumps or something underneath the stock sound deadening material and unfortunately one of these has worn a hole clean through the floor.
So my question is have many of you removed this material? And if so what was the fastest and easiest way of doing it? I heard that dry ice can work but I don't think it'll work with this material and I found today that using heat and a flammable liquid will melt it into a pile of goo to scrape off. You shouldn't remove it unless you absolutely have to. If the engine erupts in flames driving down the road it will help insulate you from the heat long enough to pull over and get out of the truck (hopefully). If you do remove it put something back in it's place after you've patched the floorboards, something like Fat-Mat.

I don't remember either trucks I disassembled it being a problem. I don't remember it being glued or stuck down. I just yanked it outta there. They both had pretty rotten floors and such tho.

Re: Factor Sound Deadning
That brake cleaner has so many uses. Did you know it will also kill wasps? The brake cleaner should help soften or dissolve any glue or stickyness. It evaporates pretty quickly, so get yourself a couple cans of it. Also if you have an old can of tar remover in the shed, dump it on there and let it soak.

Re: Factor Sound Deadning
I thought mine was attached to the floor at one point but it was just the rust bonding it to it's self.

Re: Factor Sound Deadning
Yo! All my crappy flooring came up easily, with a layer of rust attached to the bottom of it! With no back window, and on it's belly in a cow pasture for four years, it didn't suprise me.
Todd.
