so my next question now that my worlds been turned upside down, lol, how are the 230s on gas matted to a 4 speed? not sure what my final drive is tho, ive always had v8s in my life, but i want to keep the factory look going, so i want to see how well this is on gas, i wish i could drive it , but so much more work to do

My 64 has a 230. Gets about 15mpg with the granny box. I'm sure it could be improved. These I6's don't have the most efficient head design.

Re: im no rocket scientist but...
When I checked my block numbers against Leo's 6 cylinder builders manual, I discovered that 230 and 250 blocks are identical and 194 and 230 cranks are identical. So I have a 1970, 250 block with a 194 crank which makes it a 230. Mine is a great running motor, I thought about a V-8 but will run the 6 until it drops!

Re: im no rocket scientist but...
A 194 head on a 230 or 250 ups the compression ratio. It's an old hot rodders trick. There are plenty of modifications you can do to a I6. I've got an I6 in my truck. Like any motor you can go as crazy as you want. Keep it stock and they'll run forever. You'll enjoy the economy of a 6. Clifford Performance 6=8 has some nice stuff.
