55 - 59 Short Fleetside

Anybody ever see a '55 - '59 short fleetside? There's a bed for one for sale not far from me in decent shape and I'm going to go look at it, the guy's asking $400 and the pics look like it's in good shape. It has the same body moldings as the long bed but it's definitely a shorty. I have a good step bed, I think it would be cool to have a second bed to swap on a whim.

58-59 Short bed fleetsides are common. 55-57 are not. If its 55-57 it is worth a lot mor than $400. Look up Cameo (spelling?) and compare it to the 58-59 befor you go to look at it. Also if it is a short 58-59 with good trim on both sides, buy it. The trim is hard to find.

From the site I found, there are no true '55 - '57 fleetsides, just the Cameo. The fleetside became an option in '58. I still think an early shortwide would be cool!

If it has the trim its worth $400 just for that no matter what shape the body is in.
Cameo beds were an option from 55-58. Fleets were 2 years 58-59 and the trim was only available in 59

Re: 55 - 59 Short Fleetside

The only trim I can see in the pics is the "Fleetside" script on the back. I'll know more when I take a look. Thanks for the info!

Re: 55 - 59 Short Fleetside

I'v got a 59 short bed fleetside Im putting be hind a 57 B cause I like it but thats just me. Yea also plan on replacing frt grill to 56 because Ilike it you dont have to be traditional to have a smoking rod. Unless your a "HAMB' urger but thats just me!! Oh ya I gave $450 for the whole truck ( in order to get Fleetside) The frt drivers fender was smatch from grill back into frt tire. Says He hit a 01 mustang with headlights off driving drunk in wrong deriction on one way road. would like to see what stang folded up into hiting that heavy steel. Going to use extra cab for Crew cab. Got extra '59 pas. fender and hood and will have back of cab with big window if any body wants it.

Re: 55 - 59 Short Fleetside

Mine is a '56 but I'm going to put my '57 hood on it, gonna leave the '56 grill. Mine will be on a '63 GMC chassis, so there's not going to be much that goes together, I'm gonna build it like I want to.
Thank goodness there's not as many purists here as on the Corvette site I frequent!
Send pics of your shortwide, I'd like to see how it looks before I commit to this bed. My email address is 81vette4speed@suddenlink.net

Re: 55 - 59 Short Fleetside

The cabs 55-7 &58-9 are all the same so body lines look good. You can probbaly pick up some pics on here of some 58-59 fleetside. I no I seen some builds on shorting down some long bed flletsides either here or over on the "Bolt" I think these short bed fleetside look good with a decent tire up under it.

THEY JUST SHOUT OUT "SMOKE EM IF YOU GOT EM "

Re: 55 - 59 Short Fleetside

Theres a 57 short wheel base truck with a fleet side bed in town. Dad sold him the BBG cab years ago. The old body man that built it drove it for sevral years, then gave it to his 16 year old grandson, And you guessed it, he wrecked it.
