LMC rear gas tank install
Has anyone done a LMC rear mounted gas tank? I bought it as a kit but there was no instructions. This is how it came out when I did it. Of course, there had to be alot of modification.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Thats where I'm going with mine, I just need to find a door for the fender.
I have an aluminum tank now but it's a bed fill and don't want to fill it there.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Is there any reason why you should not install the tank with the filling port pointed to the passenger side? I put it in both ways, and can't think of any reason why you can not do it either way, but I have only see people doing it with the fill port on the driver side.
Just curious to hear if there is a reason for it. |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
thatīs really simple , put the tank under the frame , put the metal straps in place and bolt on the straps on the left side of the frame , on the right side of the frame drill two holes in the underside of the frame , drill upside two larger holes in the frame (see pic #2,it shows the passenger side with the two larger holes), put the bolt from the straps thru the frame on the right side and put the fasteners thru the frame on the bolts ! DONE!!!!!!
i hope you understand what i want to say! Pat Last edited by Apache63; 07-19-2009 at 12:21 PM. |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
apache63 the tank looks great but your going to run into issues when you go to install the bed. The first cross sill in front of the rear will hit the tank and fill neck without a ton of mods. jessy66 in the first pic has the right idea with the flush top mount. Hope it all works out for you.

Huh? I think I need to see a close up of the bolts/holes!

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
IMO the way Apache63 did his is the best way to install them regardless of bed crossmember interference. That can be dealt with. I would rather have the tank as high as possible. Just my .02

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
True statment about the hight, but if it was me i would rotate the tank 180 so the filler neck is not over the mounting hole for the cross sill. Then the only mod would be to notch the center part of the sill.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Wouldn't that make it exiting very near the wheel well on the passenger side?

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
I had to cut the frame a little bit for the gas filler neck. The bed went on with no problems with the gas tank flush mounted.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
You committed a major structural no-no with the way you cut the frame. I was looking at that last night, trying to come up with a solution that was feasible.
My first choice would be with a piece of round tube, say 4 or 6" diameter, welded to the inside of the frame. Something like the attached sketch.
