Vapor Lock ?
Another issue I had was it didn't want to start after sitting for about 20 to 30 minutes. I finally got it going by pumping the gas and then holding it to the floor and it started. I know I need to rebuild the carb and I will probably get a phenolic spacer, anymore things I should do ? Thanks!

Mine had a similar problem until I adjusted the floats, it seems they were set too high so when I shut it off the fuel would overflow and flood it out. While you are working on the carb you might as well check it out. Hope this helps.

Yeah, sounds like it's flooding.
Next time don't pump the gas pedal. Just push it all the way down and leave it down while cranking to see what happens. If it starts easier that way it's an indication of flooding. On the other hand, if you actually have to pump the pedal to get it started, it may be the floats are adjusted too low, or you could be leaking gas out of the float chamber. Either way, a good cleaning and carb kit should resove the issues. |

If you still have a Q-Jet when you do the rebuild make sure you epoxy the well plugs or better yet put in the newer solid well plugs. These are notorious for leaking causing either flooding or emptying the fuel bowl or both.
