Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Hi all! Been reading this board for years and decided to get involved. I just picked up this 66 big back window for cheap! It has factory A/C and power brakes. The cab looks to be in excellent shape with the floors and rockers solid. I will have to fix the floor around the shifter as they cut out a section in front of the removeable transmission cover (not sure why) However, I have another couple of cab's as donner's and should be able to fix the problem easy... I have a shortbed frame that I am going to build up starting in a few weeks... And I also have a Fat Man mustang II IFS that I picked up cheap. not sure if I want to drop the druck with an early classic enterprises kit or the Fat man. Going for a 4.5 & 6 drop. Anyone have the Fat Man kit? Pictures? Let me know what you think!

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Looks like a good truck to start with. I would recommend staying with a truck suspension in the front. There is plenty of aftermarket support for them to do most anything you want. That MII suspension is just too light duty for a truck IMHO. Just sell it and but truck suspension parts......

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
I've been considering not using the Fat Man. I ended up with it because I bought an unfinished project a few years ago and the guy was making a drag truck.. The fat man kit I have is 5 on 4 3/4 with A body rotors and calipers.. I've been thinking that if i stay with the stock suspension I will be happy. Besides I'm only droping the truck 4.5 in the front.. so probably no need for the mustang II stuff! ***Edit: Please review the site rules regarding posting items for sale***

My 66 BBW Project!
Time for an update! Things have been progressing nicely. I started tearing apart my donor 66 truck which is a shortbed for the frame and some misc parts. During the teardown I noticed a small reg tag on the axle drain plug! Oh ya! it's a posi. After pulling the cover off it is a 3.73 posi! man am I happy now.... Here are a few pictures of the progress being made..

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Oh! I forgot to mention that I used a 4.5 - 6 drop from CPP. The "grand slam" I will never buy from CPP again! Look for more info in the review section in a few days.
The tires are from coker and were picked up from the local discount tire for 100.00 total. Aparently they had a customer order them who did not understand how bias tires handle. They took them back but could not send them back to coker because they were used (less than 100 miles). So they sat in their warehouse for six months. I was there buying tires for my dodge and was just asking what their price would be for the tires... well... SCORE Wheels are wheel vintiques ordered from summit. (15x7) Caps are also from wheel vintiques.. Short bullet caps for "rally" type wheels.

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Nice truck and progress. That chassis looks cherry, and doesn't need to be shortened! Posi with an ideal 3.73, things are really coming together. Love the tire story - I think all of us have at least one of those miracle deals we've stumbled into at one point in time.

Subscribing,... because I love the big back window 64-66 trucks.
Sorry to hear about your dealings with CPP. I've been there also. Looking forward to updates!

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
cab looks real solid. Are you going to shorten the fleet bed, or swap that step bed from the donor truck?

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Over the years I have collected a few parts... I have had the bed for the truck for several years. It came off of a 65 shortbed that was being made into a drag truck. The frame was all hacked up but the bed was still original with original paint and super straight. I just took the bedsides in to be stripped yesterday. As far as the white cab goes. It's junk to me. The floors are bad and the drivers side door area has been sculpted in about a gallon on filler. It might be good for replacement panels to others. The stepside was sold on craigslist. Cab is free to any member on this board if they pick it up. PM me.

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Nope the 250 went to "Rusteeze64GB" on this board. I'm going to use a 283 with a 700r4 from Gearstar. The 283 is out of my old 65 chevelle before I decided to go to a big block. It's a great little motor. looks all stock but it is built pretty good.

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Here is another update on the truck. I have been busy working on making the brake lines from scatch, changing the rear bearings and seals, and working on the front power steering conversion. However, today I had a surprise. My 700r4 from Gearstar showed up. WOW! was this things packed well. Great parts inside and the trans looks great. It is a great value for only 1495.00 You get trans, torque converter, TV cable, dipstick tube, mount, vacuum lockup switch, 13 quarts of Synthetic Trans Fluid, inspection cover and a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. The trans is build to my specs with the correct speedo gears for my rearend and tire height. Oh and the shipping was free. I plan on putting the engine and trans in this weekend. I'll post some pics on Monday. For now here are the pics of the trans...

Re: Noob! My new 66 BBW Project!
Almost forgot... I sent the bedsides out to be media blasted and they came back awesome. The guy at the shop said that they are probably the best bedsides he has ever seen for these trucks. No rust and just a few small dings plus 3 bullet holes from the truck sitting out in a field for years. I'm trying to decide if there is a way I could keep the holes for fun and still have the truck look good in the end... Oh and yes the parts are being stored in one of the bedrooms... Don't ask the Mrs. how she feels about it!! it's not a good answer
