Axle spline
I took the axles out of my 64 to have drilled 5 lug and the bearing surface was bad. So I got a 65 long bed step truck and I got the axles out of it. The axles out of my 64 are 30 spline and the axles out of the 65 are a courser spline(didnt count them last night). Could someone tell me whats what here?

Re: Axle spline
Thanks. So more than likely someone put a early rear in the 65 and a 65-66 rear in my 64? And thanks for the info. I was wondering if I could just swap the spiders out.

Re: Axle spline
They sell 5-lug axle swap kits for the early rears & include the spider-gears as part of the kit. Because of the gears, the early kits are a little more expensive.

Re: Axle spline
Well I figured out the deal. My "64" is actually a 65. The man i got it and the long bed from told me the SWB was a 64 and the long was a 65. But he had them backwards. I just ran the vin and figured it out. I guess I will change spider gears since I have already got these 17 splines drilled.

Re: Axle spline
that's what I was going to say, They put the 17 spline in up to 64', Then changed it out in 65 with the 30.
