Suspension Rebuild

1972 Chevrolet c10 LWB

CPP:
Front End Rebuild Kit
Upper Cross Shaft Kit
Lower Cross Shaft Kit

Rear is a Leaf Spring Set-up.

The CPP products listed above are optional if anyone can give me better insight! Thanks for the help!

JI USED THE CPP Front End Rebuild Kit PRETTY DECENT KIT FOR THE PRICE I BOUGHT THE Upper Cross Shaft Kit Lower Cross Shaft Kit FROM CARQUEST THOSE SEEMED KINDA HIGH WITH THE REBUILD KIT THE BALL JOINTS WERE BACK ORDERED THEY CAME IN TWO DAYS LATER I HAD A GOOD EXPERIENCE YOU MAY NOT TO TRY OTHER PLACES MOST DONT LIKE CPP CUSTOMER SERVICE THIS IS ALSO A GOOD TIME TO REDO YOUR SHOCKS AND BREAKS

O and the chrome guy in glendale sales cpp stuff you may want to talk to him they do have good stuff but theres alot on here that complains about the customer service my drop spindles slotted rotors and lowering springs are all from him

I just replaced my rear drum brakes, not in the budget right now to go to disc, I will hit up The chrome guy this weekend acutally. We used him for the 75' Camaro we built. As far as shocks go, If I am going to lower the rear 2-4 inches, would i need to buy a shorter shock or just go with OE replacement?

OARNGESI: do you have a rear coil set up?

I havent bought shocks yet sorry my truck aint done yet and im thinking of switching to bags so holding off i got coil springs in the rear yeah your truck is a 72 without disks did they convert to drums or something im assuming its a 72 c10 cause your name

Nope, it is the factory drums.

Hmmm,... all 71-72 trucks were disc brake trucks. I wonder if your truck has an older frame under your '72 body.
Got any pics of the glove box decal (SPID sheet)?

I think he was just meaning he has rear drums and isn't doing the disc conversion there....assuming he has the factory discs in the front but I may be wrong

VA72c10: You are 110% correct. Disc in the front, Drum in the rear.
And by the way lolife99, looking at your truck had me thinking for a few hours last night about bagging my truck. In your opinion wut are the DISadvantages of being bagged?

I suppose you mean my blazer? It's bagged and I love it.
The 69 swb is a low static drop. 5.5"/7.5". I love it also,... but I like the adjustability of bags. The ride is great, especially now that I added a bolt in c-notch.

The only disadvantage of bags is the expense. Buy quality products. Correct installation is important also. Don't go the cheap route just to have a "set of bags". Just my opinion,...

I'll chime in as I am getting ready to bag mine. Had all the static drop stuff but decided to bag for several reasons

Advantages:

1) My driveway has a wicked curb and my wife's van scrapes...much less a slammed truck...bagging is the only way I could achieve a nice lowered stance and still get in/out my drive without modifying it (which is against my neighborhood covenant of course


2)I can go lower at shows than I could static and raise it up to drive it home.

3) I can tweak the drop to exactly tuck the front and rear tires the same. Every static drop I see is slightly different for different trucks so you never 100% know how the drop will look

4) It will be fun to see people's look when I pull in and air out. There is not another bagged truck at any of my local cruise-ins. Plus, I can play with switches

5) Set up properly, bags will handle better and more comfortably than lowering springs.

6) If I ever do haul a load in the bed I can add air to raise it up and not bottom out. Can easily run into issues with a 5 or 6" rear drop if you ever haul anything.

7) It's a small bonus, but I will have an extra fitting in my air tank that I will be able to use to help me/friends out with a low/flat tire.

Disadvantages

1) CO$T
Bags will run at least a couple hundred more than springs WITHOUT air management (tank/compressors/valves) Can run 1000-1500 more with certain setups

2) Chance of failure-- If set up properly this is unlikely but never 100% foolproof. Look at big rigs and the 100's of thousands of miles they put on air setups so they can be done well with great reliability

3) Jealousy from the static dropped crowd

All in all I weighed the cost difference, and in my case the functionality won out easily.

Ok, so if I do drop the rear 4 inches with a mono leaf set up the correct thing to do would be getting the kyb shocks...

Now, for the front I am using 2.5" drop spindles, with 2" drop springs... Should I match the front shock to the total drop height or to the spring drop height??? Thanks for the help

I agree, which is why I have settled on a 4.5/4 drop, i saw a 72 c10 cheyenne like mine on here and i loved the stance.

Also lolife if you have any insight as how to work on front fender i have a post in the paint/body section as well. Thanks!

Visit the review board and search for CPP before you buy.

You may want to consider ECE or one of the board vendors instead.
