Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
Good thing I live far away from there...I would be bidding on both; the one with black wheels in super clean!

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
My 69 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4 was originally a fire truck here in S. Florida. I aquired it through an auction in 1989 for $500 and it had less than 10,000 miles on it. I think the reason for such low miles is they didn't have A/C so the firefighters chose to drive the newer trucks that had A/C.

That would figure. Two trucks like that up for auction, right out my back door while I'm stuck in Iraq.

I'd be all over the one with black wheels if I didn't already have two trucks and a mortgage.

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
looks like they are going for a good price... much higher than the chevy van
BTW.. any ideas what the knobs are for, that are in place of the radio? maybe lights/siren? both trucks have them... ( cant seem to post the larger link, results in the dreaded red "x" )

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
Those purple wave auctions are awesome. They do alot of them around here, amazing the deals that go through there. Vehicles and busses under 1000 or not much over, seen nice running semis going as low as 7,000. Something to keep an eye on for all you collectors of....well pretty much anything!

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
My money says the first one has 5700 original miles. The second has 108k. The vins are 20 apart so those trucks have been together for 40 years. The 108 truck has a ripped seat, rusty bed and faded writing on the rear bumper. The 5700 mile truck has perfect rear bumper you can read an a perfect seat and pedals. The door panel on the high mileage truck looks like crap. the door panel on the 5700 mile truck looks great. With no air in KS the paint would be rubbed off of the top of the inside door panel. They were county trucks that were probably at one station that served (guess) 10 mile radius. They were gopher trucks so they didn't work accidents and fires.

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
One thing I know is that fire departments usually take real good care of their vehicles so mechanically I'll bet those trucks are in really good shape.

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
I would say both have the original mileage. In the County I work for, the fire department has several older trucks similar to these with water pumps mounted in the back. They are known as brush trucks, which are only driven when needed to put out brush fires. The ones we have are low mileage and also have rust in the beds.

Re: Govt. surplus low mileage GMCs for auction
We got a 67 in the town I live in. They call it a "grass rig" for the same reason Truckism pointed out their brush trucks are used for. I bugged the chief once to find out if they are ready to sell and he says, "Hell no! There is $150,000 worth of equipment on that thing."
I don't want the equipment, just the low mile '67 it is all bolted to.
