Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
thanks for the comments. first off it was sitting under a tree parked on the street for the last 10 years. some how it was given a new battery gas and it fired right up. just found out it had no oil or air filter. so i added some oil and gave it a new filter and cleaned up the carb. its running good now. cant even feel the tranny shift through the gears. The master cylinder is leaking but other than that the brakes work great. Next up is getting the rear window to go up. it went down but the switch is not turning the motor in the other direction. after that a nice cleaning of the interior, im going to reverse the flip kit and add 2" shackles and remove 1 leaf spring. then, im going to cut the exhaust and weld on my flowmaster 40. after that, block sanding the body panel by panel and spraying with satin black. this may turn into a build thread if thats ok thanks guys for looking

Thanks for the pictures.
At least yours has a switch, the one I just picked up doesn't have one and I got ahold of a manual tailgate for mine.

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
well i tested the switch and its working fine and i hooked up 12v to the power motor and it works fine. so there is a problem with the wire somewhere on its journey to the front of the truck. i am going to bypass these wires and rewire it to the switch in the dash. Then all will work! next this week possibly cutting exhaust for flowmaster and reversing the flip kit- we will see

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
just an update i got the rear power window working. new plug wires on the engine and removed the a/c unit. also welded on a new flowmaster exhaust and chrome tip. engine is running a little rough. all cylinders are firing timing is on and no exhaust or vacuum leaks. going to replace the cap and rotor and put in some new spark plugs on the weekend. found out the rear end has air shocks and what do you know they still hold air. nice smooth ride all around for being this low on a static drop. here are a few exhaust pics...

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
engine is fine. did a compression check and 150psi in all cylinders. adjusted carb and timing now runs great. next week im picking up an edelbrock performer manifold and 650cfm carb so it should sound great then. also i added a new master cylinder and bled all the brakes it stops on a dime! next update will either be body work with black primer or adding the edelbrock engine parts

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
ok just an update. i removed the original q-jet and intake manifold plus all of the smog crap that goes with it-egr, charcoal canister...and so on. i put on a edelbrock performer eps endurashine manifold with a performer 650 electric choke carb-runs prefectly smooth now, has more power and doesnt smoke on startup anymore. tell me again what all of the smog crap does? haha
next up for the engine is edelbrock water pump and valve covers. removing the old cruise control unit as well as a/c condensor and general clean up. if anyone wants the condensor/air compressor/carb or intake, let me know i will let it go for very very cheap. thanks for looking |

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
Very cool project. Im glad you got it running right then put on some good lookin stuff. It will look even better with the valve covers, water pump, and cleaned up a little more.
What's the time frame for bodywork and paint?

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
Won't you need to re-install all the smog/emmissions controls in order to pass inspection for registration? I know AZ is pretty strict... and I know CA is worse!

Re: Just bought a 79 2wd Blazer!
it just passed smog in august of 09. in two years when i need to pass again i will put it all the smog crap back on-it just runs so much better now. no smoke on startup no rough idle no hesitation and most of all no dying out on cold starts
