SPID location?
I was wondering if any one could tell me where the spid is located.
If its on the glove box door, the tag has been removed. Do you where I can get a reprint or a copy |

IMHO...If you get lucky, the truck may have the original seat. Often, at least in my '68's, the entire build sheet will
be crammed under the seat springs. If it's there, you'll have to carefully fish it out and puzzle it back together; as it will most likely come out in brittle little sections. This document, if it's still there, will tell you way more than a glove box SPID. Replications of the glove box SPID can be made. Last edited by ETsC10; 10-10-2009 at 10:36 PM. |

Yes, Spids can be recreated, but I took the question to be that he is trying to find out what his truck originally came with. You are right about the build sheet, but unlike muscle cars who got build sheets under the rear seat, most trucks seats were easy to unbolt and take out to recover or seen worse condtions which have ate the buildsheets up. Not very many people find trucks with buildsheets in them, thus the spids are more than not what people go by. If you find a build sheet in your truck though, I do agree that it will tell you far more than what the Spid ever wood. Trevor

The guys above are right on, there is no other way to tell how the truck was optioned if the SPID and build sheet are gone. However, it is pretty easy to get to know your truck and determine what it had for options or what you may want to add in the future. Many guys on here could look at your truck and tell you pretty quick just about every option your truck has on it. In addition you could also get a restoration pack, (see the FAQ section) it will list the available options for your year of truck and you can simply look your truck over, go down the list and determine weather you have the option or not.
Putting options on a new label is the easy part, I have done them for many here on the board, below is an example. [IMG][/IMG]

sucks that GM wants 50 bucks for the resto packet now.
I would say 50 bucks is ok for one from each year 67 - 72... but not for each one. Not NEARLY enough info in there to make them worth that much. |

I agree Andy, I always thought it was a little strange that they would send you a big stack of information free of charge, but to go from free to $50 is a little excessive. One of those years, (can't remember which one) doesn't have very much info in it for $50.

$50? Whoa. Guess I'll covet the copy one of the board members sent me.
Chipflyer, sorry that on my previous post I forgot who made all of the beautiful SPIDs here on the board. Your work looks grand and, when my project decides exactly what it's going to be comprised of, a new SPID will be on the top of my list. And, yes, you're right. Educated guessing is sometimes the only way to get the job done. I would imagine many here can get pretty spot on accurate, too. |
