Cleaning up engine - gooey gunk on AC lines?

What do you guys recommend on this? Can I remove it? Do we really need it, if so replace it with what?

Also I've noticed on really clean show trucks that there is very little stapped to the firewall. Any suggestions here?

Thanks.

you can remove it. It is to seal the underhood gases from the A/C evaporator. Anything that seals and looks good works. This was a dealer fix at first then the factory started using different stuff to seal it.
