If I take the Tailgate Band off...

I'm just realizing that if I remove my rear tailgate panel/band thingy, which is stainless or aluminum or something and all dinged up and crappy looking, that behind that band may be a totally OK looking surface with "Chevrolet" written right there?

whats the deal with that panel?

Mine looks terrible, and I want a new one, but they're impossible to find, and it looks like some people are just removing them entirely, and it would appear there's even a chevrolet badge behind them or something.
