Re: theres hope for us yet! $104,500.00 at bj!

I talked to Jimmy Smith today from Street Customs and Restorations that restored the truck....Really nice guy.... He told me they had 3500 hours in this restoration at a cost of 144,000 dollars plus.....He also stated that the truck went on floor for auction two hours later than scheduled that probably kept it from getting on bigger money....After about 30 mins on the phone with him explaining everything this truck has, I'm convinced this is probably one of the nicest 65's you could ever find

Also sent him detailed pics yesterday of my truck to get a price......To my surprise it wasn't that bad.......12,000 dollars to finish all body work and Black paint show ready.......Anyone got an extra 12,000 dollars I can have

They had $144,000 in the truck and it sold for $104,500... so Childress only lost about 40 grand

I find this all very interesting but in reality it is all crazy to me. 3500 hours... lets see if I spend 6 hours a week working on my truck then in about 11 years from now it will be done.

I guess somebody has to raise the bar. But then again all this talk of a $100,000 truck makes my "big decision" as to if I should spend a couple hundred bucks on a set of gauges for my old heap now seem like chump change in comparison.

I just saw March 2010 Street Trucks Mag. There is another article on this truck. According to that article they spent $165,000 on the truck. That's just absurd.

You need two tools in life: duct tape and WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, you use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, you use WD-40.

Re: theres hope for us yet! $104,500.00 at bj!

that was owned by Richard Childress, the NASCAR guy, and had a custom chassis too...

The bid was $94K so with the 10% fee it came to $104K.

That was a great sale, but that is not your run of the mill truck...racing chassis and you KNOW that motor is bad ass!

you could tell that a ton of 100K+ restorations were going for 50K- at this years auction...
that guy, barrett, or jackson, I don't know which one he was, I think he only smiled a couple times during the whole auction, a couple years ago he looked like the joker he was so excited...
ths would have been the year to buy.
