Ignition Switch Wiring Harness 1977

I have a '77 GMC with some melted wires under the steering column. Can I replace just that part of the harness, without buing a complete(expensive) harness?

You probably could, but you would need to find out why they melted in the first place so it doesn't happen again.

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring Harness 1977

This thing is over thirty years old, has lots of splices and speaker wire up under the dash and hood. There were splices wrapped in duct tape instead of electrical tape, and the you have to push a button under the dash after turning the key on to start it. LOTS of jury-rigged stuff on this thing. I'd love to replace the entire wiring harness, which I someday will, but I am unemployed at the moment and need to drive this thing.

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring Harness 1977

You might start looking in the parts section here, and you local junk yards for an entire under dash harness, and maybe an under hood harness. If that is not possible ($$$ wise) I would methodically start replacing each necessary wire.
