Looking for a little help about going from a 3/4 ton to a 1/2 ton

In a couple months I am going to start tearing into my project. First thing on the list is to convert it from a 8 lug 3/4 ton into a 5 lug 1/2 ton. I was planning on buying a mid 70's 1/2 ton truck and using the suspension off that. Swapping out the rear end seems easy enough, but as far as the front goes, can I swap out the entire front crossmember? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

no need to swap the crossmember, just swap the a-arms and spindles

I went the from a 1/2 to a 3/4 on a burb. One thing I found out was you'll need a new rear u-joint. The 1/2 is smaller than the 3/4. Napa has a u-joint that adapts the two together. Shame you not closer, I've got a good 1/2 front end.

The mid 70's truck should have a 12 bolt rear. You may not even need to change to a conversion u-joint.

I think I would just swap from the control arms out, like Tracey said. That would go faster, and gives you an opportunity to put new bushings in at the same time.
