I bought a 89 gmc Suburban 5,7 700r4 4x4. The problem is my oil pressure it seems low it moves to 15 then will drop to 0 step on the gas and it picks up pressure to 30.Is this normalfor the trucks? I changed the oil filter and oil to 10w30 chevron with ac delco filter. while down there i noticed it has a oil cooler is this factory or did the po install

Re: Need you'r thoughts

check the oil pressure sender and the connection if it is good then see if you really have oil pressure. put a mechanical gage on it. you may be able to get a loaner from the parts store. if you have oil pressure then try changing the sender. if not start looking thinking oil pump or you have worn bearing on the main bearings.

Is it possible that you are not putting enough oil in it? With the oil cooler, it will need more oil than normal.

if it is showing full on the dipstick then its full cooler or no cooler because the cooler would hold oil in it. we know it has oil in it because the truck is running. however if the cooler has a leak then that could affect oil pressure.

Of course it is full if the dipstick shows full, but this has not been stated yet. Also, it could still be running well even if a little low on oil. I am only trying to point out something that may not have been thought of, to help diagnose the issue.

does it have alot of miles on it ? when the crank and rod and main bearings have alot of wear your oil pressure will drop and pick up with rpm .
