Re: Heater core ?

Dont bang your head on the hood.. Just take the top cover off and the rest is cake. I think there is one other piece inside that unbolts and it comes out. After you have done one or two you can do them in about 10 mins so the first one will be about 20. Of course if you want to start cleaning things then it might take 30 mins..

Re: Heater core ?

There is another piece inside holding the heater core in. At least from what I can remember. Maybe yours is rusted to the bottom of the heater box.

Re: Heater core ?

The heater core does not contact the bottom of the heater box and you must remove four 1/4" hex head screws, that hold the heater core to the underside of the intermediate cover. This will allow the heater core to fall, loosely into the box, however, the entire unit must be removed from the firewall, because there are four 1/4" hex head screws that keep the intermdiate cover from being removed and allowing the heater core to come out of the box. In order to remove this assembly from the firewall, you must remove four or five 7/16" hex head lags, that hold the box to the firewall from the engine bay side and two speed nuts from the cab side of the firewall. This will allow the box to come free and the heater core can then be removed.
