Engine twisted in the frame?

I'm swapping in an LT1 which has plenty of flat technically level area on top. If I place a straightedge across the top and measure down from the straightedge the drivers side is 1 in closer to the frame than the same point on the passenger side. 1963 C-10 straight six motor mounts used.

My question is thus; Should the top edges of the frame where the top of the engine mount attaches be equal distance?

This all arose from the 1967 C-10 headers I bought having the number 1 primary hit the engine mount.

Thanks in advance,

- Brian

Re: Engine twisted in the frame?

Whilst those are some amazing pictures, I have neither the need or cash for such a set up. I'm thinking if the frame was bent the engine would twist with it. Since the engine appears twisted in relation to the frame, I'm leaning toward the culprit being a bent frame side motor mount.

Re: Engine twisted in the frame?

So after removal I can't line the 3 bolts back up. If the two in the top rail of the frame line up the bottom one is too far towards the truck centerline. If the one on the bottom is lined up the top two are pushed toward the outside edge.

Was I wrong in assuming the 230 straight six mounts would work for what is essentially a SBC?

Not having a proper benchvise is beginning to be a pain in the butt. I'm beginning to think both mounts are bent. Time to try and find some.

Re: Engine twisted in the frame?

I used the straight six mounts on my SBC with no problems. I'd look for some better ones. jeff
