Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

full length headers, 3 inch, true duals, cutouts, no cats, single chamber race mufflers, then dump it right behind the cab. that will be loud as hell even with the cutouts closed

Flow master exhaust are over rated. I'll never buy another set.

Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

Flowmaster 40's sound good, but to me it's way too loud inside the cab. Especially at cruise mode. If I ever get Flow's again, I'll check into 50 or 70 series.

Do Magnaflows have the same issues?

Nope, I cruise at 2000 RPMs. No major interior sound!! I can almost hear tire noise over the sound. Magnaflows are true flow through mufflerts. Flowmasters are baffelled for sound. I've ran Flowmasters too. I'll take Magnaflow over Flowmaster any day!! I like them so much, I'm installing one on my 96 Jimmy.

I have to agree with this statement. I had the all must have Flowmasters on my '65 Chevelle, and a handful of my trucks. NEVER again. I had Magnaflo's on my '71 w/454 and it sounded PERFECT. I cant stand the droning noise inside the cab.

Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

Right now I have 2 of the Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow. With long tube headers, an H pipe, and the pipes exiting under the rear bumper, it's just enough to please the ear but not enough to annoy. Doesn't make the booming statement that the original 40 series do, but it's still got that signature sound.

Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

I've got the pypes stainless race mufflers on my 87 454 Sierra Classic. The motor is stock with stock exhaust manifolds, !cats, and I'm very happy with the sound. It's not nearly as loud as one would expect, and when I'm cruising I really don't even hear it. It's got a very deep rumble at idle, and sounds good when I step on it.

Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

I've got an almost identical system to Pyrotechnic's except mine exits to the sides behind the rear tires. I love the way it sounds. Nice and deep at idle with not too much resonance in the cab at cruise and still a little crack when you get on it. I've had 40 series as well with no h-pipe and they were substantially louder. Exhaust tone is a very subjective topic so try to listen to a few to see what you like.

Re: Which Exhaust should I get?

Yo! Long Hookers into 2.5" Summit turbos with a 90 degree bend to exit in front of the rears worked well on my '76 Camaro, giving it an imposing sound at cruise,...and an overwhelming roar with heavier acceleration.
So FRANKENTRUCK got shorty headers (for clearance), into 2.5" Summit turbos, a Summit "H" pipe kit, and 2.5" exhaust straight out the back. All tucked up nicely within the 4x4's frame. Scott @ Ken's Muffler in Ft Collins, CO did the install for me:

Great sound and horsepower without the expense or the loud! And I'd be hard pressed to drag this exhaust on the ground, as you can see!
Todd.
