widest tire on 15x10
What is the widest tire one can fit on these 71 trucks on a 15x10 rim with stock width axles and lowered 4-5 inches. no spacers.
going to need meat but not going to cut the truck.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
Is it tubbed? IF not, I think a 11-12" is about as big as you'll get. Tub it like my 68, and the sky's the limit, . I currently have a 12" wheel with a 15.5, but I'm looking to go to a 15" wheel with a 18...

Re: widest tire on 15x10
hey Rob I thnk we are stuck where we are with the 15.5's that tire will rub on the spring( see your second pic) or the bed..you pick..I have run the #'s and I can't make it work...check the section of the 18's and you'll see...the combo of the added 3" of rim and side wall bubble make it imposable with a stock suspention

What kind of back spacing do those 12" wide wheels have? And do your tires tuck into the fender wells? I tubbed my truck too, and I'm thinking while at the track, I need clearance for the tires to tuck on hard launches (plus I'm lowered anyways) I was thinking probably about 8 - 9" backspacing for a 12" wide wheel. |

Re: widest tire on 15x10
heres a pic of my tires..this is slammed with a 2 1/2" c notch..these are 31x15.5x15 and I build the truck for 29's so they rub about 1/2" from full dump..my rims are stock rallies with 4" added to the back space ( dumb ass I never measured before I put them on) when I switch to radials it will all clear fine...my tubs are 4" wider..if you look at the stock tub I moved it one hole to the center

Re: widest tire on 15x10
your going to have to pick a tire size and build the truck around that..in other words how low and wide you want it to look..also if you you find an older (pre70) rear axle you will end up with a little narrower trac which will help with rubbing
maybe you need to take some measurements from what you have then we can GUESS on a choice

Re: widest tire on 15x10
then I would grab one lift you truck up ( by the axle) take your wheel off and see how it looks and fits......since your not going to tub you can get a good idea and rotate your tires at the same time..???

Re: widest tire on 15x10
One thing that doesn't look like it's been mentioned is that certain width tired are designed to go on certain minimum width wheels. Just because the tire machine will get it on doesn't mean it's right or safe. In a perfect world, you want the edge of the tire tread to be parallel with the edge of the wheel. If you have a 12" tread width and a 15" center section on a 10" wheel. That is not good. Changes how the bead of the tire meets the wheel. really hard on the sidewall too and it will start to crack over time. Just a thought.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
all true with todays lower profile tires. with a taller profile (70 up) you can get away with a wider tire/narrower wheel scenario...but not by much.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
325-50's are a common size used on 10" wheels.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
5-5.50" back-spacing is common to 71-87's for a 10" wheel. You need to measure your truck to be certain they'll fit. What fits one may not fit another; always verify your set-up.
What is currently on the truck?

Re: widest tire on 15x10
I have ran the 315/60's on 2 trucks. I used a 15x10 wheel with 5 inch backspacing both times.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
right now with no suspension mods and the 26" BFG DRs it doesnt like to be hit out the hole with the 100 shot, I can hit it about 30-40' out and it is fine so I will be going to 28" tall tires for looks and to get more meat and I hope to eventually put 150-200 shot from a Nitrous Outlet Plate system. And while doing all of this it will eventually have heads and cam plus a GOOD stall TC (yank or vig/PI). If I follow the recipe of the others cars I have been involved in, I should be able to make 475-500 to the wheels on motor.

Re: widest tire on 15x10
better check your class regs before you get to carried away....I'm sure you know that the shorter the tire the harder it wil hit.....
more meat may not be your answer either pick ups suck at weight tranfer....theres a few guys here that know WAY more about getting these to hook up ( I need to learn too) I was thinking about mounting my battery under the bed in front of the DS wheel it will clean up the engine bay and move the weight...

I thought about the same thing, moving battery for cleaning up things and gettin weight off the front, have not even started looking into it yet but might.... I will eventually get a tank relocated under the bed for some weight back there.
