First time at the track this year

Went to the track for the first time this year and the first pass was 13.14 off the bottle. The best it did last year was a 13.22 . So that was cool .At the end of last year I changed the carb and converter and was trying to get it in the 11s with a 150 shot of nos but traction was a problem and the trans was slipping going into 3rd. This year Im putting a 10in wheel with a 325/50 drag radial .That should help with the traction . I have only put 6 runs on the new carb 3 last year and 3 last fri night and havent played with the jetting yet so there should be a little more in the carb. Going tonight see what happens

Re: First time at the track this year

I still have the steel 8in truck rally with a 275/60 micky thompson drag radial.I think I'm going to remove the front sway bar before tonight. do you think it will help the 60ft or not. I have rancho 9 way adjustable shocks on the front and back ,front set all the way loose and the back at 7 clicks hard. If the track is good it will hook if not I have to loosen the back a little.

Re: First time at the track this year

Sounds like you need a different front spring to start. I tend to set up the springs (front and rear) on the very soft and long side to store energy. I then use the shock to control the rate in which the suspension expands/contracts. Last time at the track my fronts were full tight and the rears were in the middle. Both front and rear are Rancho 9's on m truck. This allows for adjustments for poor track conditions. On the street in almost the same setting, no burn out, I can stall my truck up to 3k and be 100% wide open with in about 1 second (according to my data logger).. I haven't tried loosening the fronts yet, I might be able to hit it harder/faster on the street, but, I don't race the truck on the street anymore.

Removing the front sway bar will do 2 things, remove weight and loosen up the front a bit. Do you have a rear anti roll bar? That helps more than most think.

Re: First time at the track this year

Made three runs .First run 13.002 @ 102.38 sec run 13.006 @ 103.36 so close to the 12s . Removing the sway bar didnt help my 60ft (1.82 same as last week) after making the two runs I tried to make a nos pass and spun the tires , bounced it off the rev limiter from first to sec then again in sec to third. Forgot how fast the revs come up on the nitrous .I forgot to lower my shift lite rpm so that doesnt happen. I dont have a anti roll on the rear just origianl coil spring.

Re: First time at the track this year

Was it dead hooking on motor? Best way to really tell, is get some white shoe polish and make a line on the tire and have some one video the tire on launch.

If you can get someone to video, also have them video the full truck from the driver side rear quarter, this would allow us to see what the full chassis is doing under launch.

What spring is in the front?
Do you know what the truck weighs?
How about the front end weight?

There is definately more in it on the bottle and i see a 12 second motor tie slip.

Re: First time at the track this year

.003 is only a matter of the proper air temp and humidity. You have the mph. what stall is your converter?

Re: First time at the track this year

Trucks got some weight behind it.. If you can get me a front end weight, I can give you some front/rear spring ideas that might help hook that bottle..

Re: First time at the track this year

Are you running the same timing on and off nitrous? You could try adding 2 degrees or so when not on the juice. Too much timing and nitrous leads to melted pistons but just to get that 12.xx timeslip on motor without nitrous its worth a shot. It doesnt cost anything to advance the timing 2 degrees or so. Super73 has a bunch more insight with what to use in the suspension. I'm just tossing out ideas for cheap easy stuff to try just to get the number you want. You have the mph to go 12's

When I run on just the motor my timing is at 35 to 36 deg total .With the 150 jets in the plate I run at 30 deg total. with 110 octane. I like it on the safe side.. Last year I moved the timing up to 38 deg but it didnt seem to make a difference
