67-70 rear end

will a 70 rear bolt in to my 65? mine is about to go and i found one on cl for 60 bucks.it's only the rear do i need anything else?i plan to put my brakes on it. and my truck is a factory 283 powerglide what gears do you think i have? the new one is a 3:08.thanks in advance..

I believe it will bolt right in, I think you would be better off with the later brakes, the powerglide had a 2.70 something ratio as I recall

2.70? mine came with a 3.73.

block up your rear end and rotate the wheels to see what rear end gearing you have. I read some where around here that the number of times your drive shaft rotates for one rotation of your wheel ='s your gearing.

I also think I've heard the 67 ups are little wider due to the brakes but I could be wrong.

While a 70 rear end will bolt in and work, it is wider then the one coming out of your 65. The 69-72 rear end is wider then the 64-68 rear ends. I have also seen differences in where the pan hard bar mounts to the rear end. I believe that the 65 and 70 use the same mount, it is a stud on an ear cast into the center section on the passenger side.

Double check that the brake shoes and drums are the same. Some trucks had wide shoes/drums.

My 65 has a 70 rear end in it. It will work fine. It is 3/4" wider on each side (1/1/2" wider all together).
