one barrel carb?
Truck has a 250 out of a 70 something Old,s. HEI, etc. Rebuilt the carb yesterday because it was loading up. I tried to set it with a vacuum gauge today. The air/ fuel mixture screw does nothing. I can turn it all the way in or out with no change. Just drove it and it is still loading up. What am I missing? thera are vacuum ports that are capped and the one port on top by the air horn that is open but it has no vac. so i assume it is fine.

Re: one barrel carb?
There are 2 different gaskets that go between the throttle body & fuel bowl. Make sure you have the right one & it is turned in the right direction. Is the float level correct & the metering rod link hooked up & adjusted? Make sure the metering rod & spring are on the holder correctly.

Re: one barrel carb?
I have the correct gasket, I double checked when I did it. All adjustments are by the instructions. If I spray carb cleaner on it , it revs up. I can spray just about any where and it does it. I assume it is time to upgrade to a 2 barrel.

Re: one barrel carb?
You've got a vacuum leak somewhere. Are all the vacuum ports plugged?

Re: one barrel carb?
I bet if you spray at the throttle shaft you`ll find out that is where your excessive play is, you can have the shaft knurled and he body bushed if you want that carb, excessive spring pressure and or age wears them out.
