64 on a 88 frame?
this may have been answered before but i can't find it if it has. soooo, one of my army buds here at beautiful fob joyce wants to install his 64 lwb body onto his 88 4wd chassis assy. i told him the frame is much wider but thats all i know to tell him. has this been done before? he says his 64 is nice but the body is shot on the 88. he wants to keep all the later model features of the 88. thanks!

Re: 64 on a 88 frame?
Even though most anything can be done if you really want to, I would advise against it. This swap would require an immense amount of work due to the big differences between the frames. Just keep the '64 frame and upgrade it with the desired parts from the '88.

Re: 64 on a 88 frame?
i hear ya bro- but wait it gets better! now he wants to cut the cab off the 88 but leave the firewall & floor attached to the frame & cut the firewall & floor out of the 64 & set it down on the 88 firewall & floor! like my daughter says- OMG! i'm doing my best to talk him out of this, but someone may have to go hide his truck from him to save it.

Re: 64 on a 88 frame?
That sounds like the imense amount of work I was alluding to. To someone with lots of metalwork and fabrication experience, this would be doable, but a lot of work nonetheless.
Someone stop him before he has 2 trucks that are junk. Quote:

Its way easier to upgrade an old junky truck than it is to make it into a different old junky truck from a different era..

Re: 64 on a 88 frame?
There was a guy here a couple years ago that started that same kind of project. He started his build thread, posted a lot of photobucket photos along the way too. It looked like his fab skills were above average, and it looked like he had a nice shop. But, he ran into all kinds of issues (can't remember exactly what they were.) Then all of a sudden, all the photobucket pics were gone, and he was never heard from again. I assume he was embarrassed to tell everyone he had made a big mistake and he probably parted out the truck. Stop your buddy before he's embarrassed.
