Suspension-Which route?

Truck-1985
What I am looking at in the near future- BBC, 350 or 400 trans, 9" or 12 bolt axle.
I have thought about swapping to a trailing arm suspension out of the earlier trucks in the rear or rebuilding my rear springs and add some caltracs.
If I go with the caltracs, what else should I do in the rear?

What should I do for the front?

Re: Suspension-Which route?

What will the truck be used for? Can get a 4link for under $400.

Dave Morgan said it in his book on doorslammer suspension....

misery loves a bunch of holes in a suspension bracket
I've got two 4link vehicles and let me tell you,,,,, IF your NOT willing to spend the time to sort it out,,, go ladderbar. MUCH easier and you might have some sanity left when you get it hooking and driving straight.

Re: Suspension-Which route?

I also have an 85..
I'm going the caltrac/mono leaf route.
I've got a 496 in the works right now. Should be done about a month after i get home.. so mid-late july? August?! Somewhere in there.

Re: Suspension-Which route?

Has anyone moved their leafs under the frames (ala s-10) to gain tire clearance on a tubbed truck? I've seen this once and I just wondered if anyone else has tried this. I'm familiar with moving the leafs inboard but that narrows the suspension points right much and can cause instability.
