Brake swap
I want to do a disk break conversion on my 67. I want to know everyones thoughts on the best way to go, an after market set up like from cpp or ece or getting the front end out from under a 73 to 87? Keep in mind price is not a factor. I want the easyest and best performing way to go.

Re: Brake swap
if this is an everday use stock ride height truck i'd just reach for factory gm parts for my upgrade. they are proven over decades of use, designed for truck work, not adapted from hot rod kits and you just go to the local parts store and order replacement pads, etc for the correct year gm....you don't have high dollar custom parts you have to order. be sure the parts you use are serviced/ in good working order and replace bits as needed.
on my 89 lesabre, i upgraded from 10 inch rotors to the 11 inch system off a '93 lesabre. i changed out everything from the knuckles out but it was a bolt in job utilizing the stock struts and control arms/ball joints. only custom piece was a right side drive axle using the slightly longer inner piece and the '93 outer piece. 20 bucks to have a local shop do the c/v joint boogie. even the trans end axle splines were the same. amazing what a little research will do for you in terms of factory bolt in hop ups that don't require high dollar aftermarket. i also had lesabre t type sway bars and the better ignition module (ac delco instead of magnavox) from that '93 donor car on my buick. and yes, i kept all my upgrades when i junked the car last year (lots of rust). got my 72 burb to replace it... now....the aftermarket does provide plenty of stuff you can't get from GM....like poly bushings, braided brake hoses, a lot of vintage replacement parts that are no longer available through the dealer, etc. but if it is something mechanical i check out what the factory options or later generation bolt in improvements will provide before i cash out big bucks for aftermarket stuff. but then again.....i like my truck to look stock and only do hop ups that will improve driveability, not for the "bling" factor. those poly bushings look like the factory rubber but are sooo much better and you have to get under the truck to see the braided brake hoses. figure it was a good safety factor and performance upgrade at the same time. nobody will see the hoses unless they get under my burb..... |
