08 transmisson tranfer into 59?

Last week we used my kids chevy crew cab pickup because it seated all 6 of us. It is 4wd auto trans. I was impressed with the fact it cruised at 75 pulling only 1800 rpm. Got me thinking about if the tranmission and transfer case would swap over to the 59 behind the 350. Anyone know? I didn't even bother to look underneath to see if its a passenger side drop front drive line. Are the transmissions tied into the engine electronics or can be run with older pre-electronic engines?

To use the transmission without the ECM would require a standalone controller. That's spelled expen$ive. If you like the idea of a 4 speed O/D transmission with a lockup converter, get a 700R4 - no electronics required.

If you want it to run and drive like your kids, put the 6.0 and 4l80 in your truck. The motor and tranny will cost you around 2 k and to cut down the harness will cost 300. You won't regret it. I love my 5.3 and 4l60.

I think Blackdiesel nailed it with his comment. The fuel mileage is part trans but a big part is due to the injected 6.0 with it's refinements. Then you would have to match the gear ratios in the truck to the ratios of the doner truck. But boy howdy what a rig you would have when you were done.

As for fitting in the truck, that should be just applying the fabricaton skills.

I'm to far into my build this time, just thinking ahead a few years so I can look for a donor truck. Still need to take a look at the front axle situation. Blackdiesel I assume the $300 it to get rid of, and modify the stock harness? Fabrication is not a problem, thats the stuff I enjoy the most.

Yes to get rid of the VATS and all else that's not needed. As for being to far into your build to change... I had mine done, and started over just to make this mod. and I think the change was well worth the time and $$ spent.

i sent it to wait4meperformance.com. $300 + shipping and they cut it all down and programmed the ecm for me (be sure to include your tire size, gear ratio, tranny model) They were ok. not going to highly recommend them but they did get the job done. There is, what sounds like, a really cute girl that works there (i believe she actually is the one that cuts the harnesses, but dont quote me on that). Thats a plus but the guy, Jesse, seemed to think i was a retard when i called him about a couple wires that wernt labled.

I think i may cut down my own harness next time. cant be rocket science...

Re: 08 transmisson tranfer into 59?

dont forget you need a high pressure fuel system and return line also the motor mounts are in a different spot.the new trans also dosent have a cable drive, but the ls motors are a roller cam design and a blast to drive,I used the original donor wiring on mine and it works fine,it just takes some research online to figure it out

Re: 08 transmisson tranfer into 59?

The tank I have can be used for in tank fuel pump in the future. I ran 3/8" line also. Return line would not be a problem, plenty of room along the frame rail. If and when I do it I will probably get a complete truck so I can get all the bits and pieces. I found on the 74 I used for the current parts that was the best way to go. It is years away if it is going to happen, I have another complete 350/350th/203 set-up I would probably use up first too.

Thanks for the replies. Patrick
