Fender Marker Light, and Key Issue
Hey,
These are totally unrelated but I figured id put them in one thread. My first problem is that my front right (passenger) side marker like on the fender wont turn on, I checked the bulb on the other side, and wd40'd the socket and plugged the bulb in like 50 million times, is the connector bad? can I check with a meter? When I turn on the left turn signal all is well and good, when I turn on the right turn signal it makes the 4 ways go on, and if I am driving with headlights on, the little green arrow for right stays on (I guess to let me know its out?) Second problem is that my starter linkage must have popped off of my key, because the key turns and will turn on the power, but I have to keep the covers apart on my steering column and use vice grips to pull the one rod forward to crank the motor. What do I have to do to reconnect this? Any help would be sick, especially with the starter -Adam |

Re: Fender Marker Light, and Key Issue
.. ......I had a 92 Silverado in the past that sort of had the same problem with the key deal, and starting.. The ignition cylinder flat out got stuck and wouldn't turn anymore. I had to go under there, and pull the rod too, to start it. G.M. columns haven't seemed to change much(70's, 80's to 90's).. What I had to do was change the "Rack and Sector"... it was a mechanism doo-hicky, that works in conjuction with the ignition cylinder and rod to work the ignition switch down-below. That could be a problem,.... mine wore out, and broke internally through years of starting, and steering wheel tilting, might be an idea or ya..
As far a your signals and lights making the 4 ways come on(does the passenger marker light up when the flashers are on?)...if so,.. might be something in your column as well..because you have the turn signal cam/actuator, emergency flasher button, reverse lights/neutral safety switch, is all activated by the column.... might have to tear it apart and check it out... What it seems like is that your getting improper contact between the 4 ways, and signals.. Sometimes connections get crud build-up/electrolisis... I've had to take the steering wheel off, and go in there and spray a bit of brake/contact cleaner on the turn signal mechanisms in the column, to remove years of grime, dirt, etc...

Re: Fender Marker Light, and Key Issue
Hey thanks man, yeah I guess ill just have to tear into the column for the key thing. for the passenger front marker/turn signal when the 4 ways come on it still doesnt light up. I think its probably the connector is dirty because it seems like its just not getting the power to the bulb.

Re: Fender Marker Light, and Key Issue
O and I mentioned the 4 ways thing because on newer cars at least when the bulb goes out the other one will just flash really fast to let you know, I figured maybe they designed it to make the 4 ways come on when a bulb goes out...?
