Re: engine help!
If the 305E is the standard Chevy small block V8 then pretty much any small block Chevy should be a bolt in. If the 305E is the V6, then I am at a loss. I'm not very familiar with those engines, sorry.

Re: engine help!
There is no engine which will bolt in except for another V-6. A Chevy V-8 or inline 6 would not be overly difficult to install using Chevy truck parts.
To keep the installation simple, choose a carbureted engine from the mid 80s or earlier. Figure on replacing the mounts, exhaust, flywheel and bellhousing. You will have to re-route the fuel line and some of the wiring and plumbing. The stock V-6 radiator will work. Ray Last edited by raycow; 08-03-2010 at 05:07 AM. |

Re: engine help!
Take a wander over to this website:
6066gmcguy.org The V6 305E is a great engine that will last. The site I recommended has a couple of easy upgrades such as HEI ignition and installation of a Holley carb in place of the original Stromberg that will make your 305E purr like a kitten. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

On the light truck engines only, you can use a pump from a 55-early 63 Pontiac. The Pontiac pump has a different casting number and looks slightly different, but it will fit and work. This is about the only engine part that interchanges with anything else. At one time the Pontiac pump was easier to find than the GMC, but I don't think this is still true today. Re: engine help!
Sounds like a cool truck, is the engine still running or did you just want to upgrade to something bigger? Oh and we definitely need pictures!
