Shackle Squeak?

Hey guys,

This last weekend I replaced the bushings in my leafsprings with some stock rubber ones. Well there was no squeak at all, last night I was showing someone and it started squeaking really really loud. I got under the truck and it seems to be coming from the shackle, when I loosen up that bolt the squeak takes longer to notice (pushing up and down on the truck).

The shackle has a uthrane type bushing not 100% sure. Is it possible, thats the problem and I should replace that one with rubber ones as well?

Urethane is going to squeak. You can lube it to make it quite for a while but it will squeak.

I would replace it with a rubber or polygraphite bushing.

Re: Shackle Squeak?

Um, my friend asked me what kind of grease I used for everything, I just went out into the garage....

How bad is wheel bearing grease on rubber? I thought I had swapped the wheel bearing grease out of my gun and put suspension grease in it... I didnt...

Do I need to take the truck apart again this weekend and wipe all the wheel bearing grease off and use suspension grease?

Re: Shackle Squeak?

I used the wheel bearing grease to slide the new bushings in and just put it on the outside of the bushing to slide them into the mounts...

Re: Shackle Squeak?

is it petroleum based vs silcone based? That's the only issue I see, petro might eat through the poly. I'd google it though.

Re: Shackle Squeak?

I just went out and looked at the grease, It says Multi purpose wheel bearing grease and HD chassis grease. It is white lithium based grease, I think I will be alright. If not the bushings were only 40$s so I can buy more if it eats everything away dont really want to take apart the suspension again..
