Late model frame swap
I have a 66 swb fleetside, putting in a 5.3 w/ 4L60E. I thought why not change to late model 2wd frame(99-06) while i am at it, which would have 6 lugs and front and rear disk brakes. Has anyone done this or seen it done. Or is it easier to change front suspension and rear axle. Any warnings or odd-ball looks that might discourage me would be appreciated, ie. would the frame rails be to low under cab and front of bed? width of rear axle, and front suspension? I have changed 47-53 models to lwb s10 , so I can handle the work, just dont want a turd in the punch bowl look .

Re: Late model frame swap
I know on a 73-87 frame it requires a 2 inch body lift.
I have seen a couple 60-66's on the 99^late model frame, one was a 4x4 with the 60 cab dropped on the late model floor pan, the other was a 4x4 burb that I think was just a suspension swap... ^all that dosen't really help your ? at all.... oh well..

Re: Late model frame swap
I've not seen a '99-'06 frame, but I would imagine they would be very similar to the '88-'98 frames. IMO these don't lend themselves well to a donor for a '60-'66 body swap. Those frames are much wider and contoured differently than the '63-'66 frames. A year or so ago there was a guy on here that was attempting to do that swap, and after a short time he abandoned the project, saying it just wasn't working out.
I have mounted a '62 body onto a '74 C10 frame, and I was not very happy with the result, but the customer loved it. It ended up with about a 3" body lift, looking about like a stock K10. I have since seen another member here use a '73-'87 K10 frame under a '69 body. He ended up stretching the frame under the cab and removing some from behind the cab to get the body closer to the frame. It is a bit of work, but that is an alternative. If I were you, I would just keep your '66 frame and switch to the '73-'87 running gear. If you are liking the 6 lug wheels, you can use '88-'98 LD2500 rotors and either LD2500 or 1500 spindles, calipers, etc. to accomplish that. The details can be found in a thread here entitled 'Disc Brake Upgrade Reference Thread'
