VSS and temp gauge?
Does anyone have a simple solution for the temp gauge? I would like to use my stock temp gauge, but I can't find the correct adapter.
I need to figure out what to do with the VSS and the 700R4. Any help would be appreciated. David |

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
What are you putting this in?
What thread size is your original temp sender 3/8ths NPT or 1/2 NPT? Either can be tapped into the passenger head. I installed my 1/2 NPT sender into my water pump, works fine. You want to keep your 700r but need a VSS signal for the PCM?

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
The 5.3 is going into my 1970 Chevy C-10. Originally the truck came with a Chevy 350.
I have no idea what size my original temp sender is...I will look into it Yes, I want to keep my 700R4 with the 5.3. I do need a signal for the ECM to the VSS. I just had this trans built less than a year ago. |

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
I just got an adapter from Autometer to go in the pass. side head. I'm not sure what size the autometer sending unit is compared to the stock temp sending unit.

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
Here is how I did mine, pretty easy. Its right near where the thermostat is so I feel it gets a good temp reading!
There are links to Jags that run in my LS swap thread (in my signature) that has some VSS solutions. You do need a VSS signal to the PCM.

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
That was some good reading. I think I may try and find a factory tail-housing for a 700R4 with the VSS already in its place. I will let everyone know what I do.

VSS only 700r4 have a reluctor pressed on the tailshaft instead of a gear. look for a TBI car or truck that has the speed sensor and cable drive in one. Late eighties early nineties Caprice maybe? It is driven by the cable style gear and will work with your tailshaft. I have one at the shop if you need a pic. Jay

Re: VSS and temp gauge?
I am trying to figure out how to get a vss signal to the pcm as well. I am keeping the th400 in my truck and i think that is the last hiccup in my plans to get this done. I saw the link on the jags site but have no idea how to adapt them to the 400 or which sensor to get other then it needs to be 4000ppm....
