Hey guys I just wanted to get an idea of how much power we have out there in the squarebody world.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP SPEED?

WHAT DRIVETRAIN AND UPGRADES ARE YOU RUNNING? (pictures are nice!)

(If you have quarter or eighth mile times post them too!)

The suburban in my sig. I hit 110, according to my calculations it will hit 128 before governor. I stop at 110 because the tires are rated at 112. Try explaining that to dad. She hits 110 real easy and rides and steers like a upper-class sedan.

With the eighties models, where the speedo stopped at 85 MPH, the fact that the speedo in in the OH WOW section means very little, but the guy with the Camaro running at 127 MPH, said I was pulling away from him.

Mine has posted a best speed of 109 or 110mph in the 1/4mile. That was with my old setup...stock smallblock with a aftermarket cam, TH350 and a stock G80 posi. It's faster now with the new setup, but I haven't had the speed recorded.

What Cam, Rear end Gears, Tire Size, are you running? long bed, or Short bed?

It's was a 226/228 EFI cam from Nelson Performance. 4.56 gears, 28X10.5 slicks, and it's a shortbed. It was a slug out of the hole but ran good on the top end.

chevy c30 454/400 3:73 had it up to about 90 have no need to speed really... the motor was screamin.

Well, this may not count but the truck did hit this speed. On the way between home & college there was a 1/2 mile or so stretch, straight as an arrow and about a 20 degree downslope the entire way.

I was running along side my friend's 280Z and we got to 135 on his speedo. I let off because my truck started to float. It was in a reasonably fresh 305, 700R4, and the tires were rated up around 160mph.

The main reason I asked this question is because I kind of thought one more thing was unusual...

Why would you need a 160mph Speedometer and a 10,000rpm tach in a square body? I would understand if you had a blower or raced all the time but with my sb400 I can't turn more than 6000 rpms without banging it out. I have .308 gears and a 350th trani so hitting 160mph isn't very likely to say the least.

I'm thinking 120mph max speedometer and a 8,000 rpm max would be just fine. I say 8,000 because it is hard to find a 7000rpm in 5" for a good price.

Thanks for the replies guys! Can anybody run 160mph and 10000rpms? That something I would love to see!

i miss my old 78 ..i got the needle all the way past 10 mph th350 built 350 camel hump heads built by an older guy posi was scary if you stepped on it doing 55 it would break loose i have pictures of it on here somwhere

hmmmmm ....well ive only had mine up to 65 so far . started driving it this week after bringing the 6.2 diesel back to life after a year asleep . wont be getting much more out of her until i either change the 4:10 gears or get an overdrive tranny . poor gal revs 3000 at about 60mph .

i hit 90 with my 80,000 mile 305 with edelbrock 500cfm carb and a 700r4 with 2.73 gears and 33" mud terrain tires. it was scarry ha ha

at maxton i hit 122.8. That was with 3.08 gears a 30.2 inch tall tire and a mild 454/th350. Ya cant expect much top end out of something with the aerodynamics of a shoebox.
That being said, i am going back with a turbo'd 468 and a few aero mods and see what happens!

ive had mine up over a 100 on the highway 305 with a 600cfm holly edelbrock rpm intake th350 with a 2200 stall not sure of rearend gears still had more but no room
