Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
something I was thinking about on my way to work this morning.
I have not rode in a 60-66 truck since i was ten and I can't really remember how they are with leg room. I have rode in plenty of 55-59 trucks and they have a lot of room. How does the 60-66 compare to the 55-59 era trucks? For that matter if you had to rank them. 47-55 55-59 60-66 67-72 from least leg/cab room to most. Only reason I ask is I am 6'2" with a slight gut and man i hate being smashed into the steering wheel. haha. |

Re: Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
I am also 6'2" and have noticed huge differences in leg room between the years of trucks. that said, my ranking is as follows:
#1 60-66 #2 55-59 #3 67-72 #4 47-55 I love my 50, but it is absolutely terrible for leg room if your over 6' thats why it sits in storage. 60-66 is by far the most comfortable for me, way more than the 67-72, which i had thought would have been more comfortable. i love how im positioned and how i sit in 60-66 trucks, its the only one of the four styles that i truly feel comfortable sitting in. |

I have a 66 Panel and because there is no back wall so I was able to move the seats back several inches. At 6'4" this makes it much more comfortabl;e than what I had.

More kicking and stomping room for me!
aerotruk63, Where in the world did you get that book at? You have a library of 1960-1966 Chevy/GMC stuff don't you? I want a copy! Put it on my Tab!

1963 Data Book.
Met a guy who worked for GM most of his life, he said to pick up every piece of literature on these trucks as possible, but I'm concentrating on 1963. It's the pictures that really help.

Re: Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
I don't think leg room is as big a deal as "gut" room. (And my gut ain't that big!)
Without power steering the wheel has to be fairly large in diameter. And to me it seems with the stock wheel and the stock seat that the driver is pretty much "tight" in the available space. I fixed that on my '65 by removing the in-cab fuel tank, using bucket seats, and buying an aftermaket steering wheel with less dish. As I recall my dad's 72 had more "gut" room? Just my thoughts.......... |

There's also a thread for shortening the steering shaft inside the cab for the gut factor. Seems an E80 had more room. I'm thinking they were using a Bostrom Viking T-Bar seat. There still available.

Re: Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
Burning follow-up question....
Ok, have a 66 C10, and am more than happy with the leg room - what I am NOT happy with is the excessive (or so it seems) distance between the pedals (clutch and brake) and the firewall. Is it just me? While I know I need a new clutch (i have about 1/32" travel before it revs to the moon....) but even with that, it's aligned with the brake pedal. So, again - is it just me - or has anyone actually gone to any effort to move these puppies closer to the firewall/floor? |

Not sure what could be done on a mechanical set up. If enough travel remains to fully release the clutch I’d say give it a try and let us know how it worked. |

Re: Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
I have never liked the way the clutch is situated in the 60-66's either, i feel like im doing a squat with one leg everytime i shift gears. lucky my truck is automatic now, and i have never enjoyed cruising around in my truck more. its a quick and easy fix for the clutch dilemma.

Re: Which era of 49-72 trucks have the most leg room?
From what I can remember, My old 62 had more room than my uncles 68 or my dads 77. I'm 6'2 and it was comfortable.
