My Next Project!
O.K. then here are my plans!
I just finished rebuilding my monojet and just cleaned up my exhaust manifold and intake. I am getting ready for paint, I am using #225 Alpine Green. Now I am planning on double the gaskets for the exhaust manifold. I have researched and found out that the 292 is a little problem for sealing in this area. Is this a good idea? Also, I would like to remove my aligment pins and replace with studs for more sealing. How do I remove the pins? |

The end studs unscrew I believe as there are bolts on mine on each end of the head, mind you this is a 194 head. It leaks at the rear or #5-6 exhaust port, always needs tightening. Double gasket idea, well we always suggest Felpro Gaskets to our customers. I'll look tomorrow if there's a part # for a better gasket. I'll be doing an installation of a 292 into my 4WD project. The manifold on the running motor has cracked flanges at the doughnut so I'll be switching it out with another.
Hollander Interchange states that 63-64 292 exhaust manifold is different from the 65-72, though the later model bolts onto the earlier head.

Photos: Question- If you look at the intake manifold you will see two threaded holes , the large one goes to the PCV and the small one was open.
When I removed the part there was nothing there, just open. So, I look at the manuel and it says nothing. Is it supposed to remain open, uncovered? Also, I will be cleaning and painting that side of the engine. I know not the way todo it but I figure that as I replace, rebuilt parts around the engine I would clean and paint them. |

Automatic transmission vacuum line, Vacuum gauge in the dash, Power Brake booster or even a wolf whistle could have been installed on that port. There was a vacuum manifold that screwed into the large port that split into 3 to help supply the different requirements. The small port has to be blocked off if it leads to the intake plenum as not to loose vacuum.
