Wink I scored a rear window for M1009, and it came with extra parts!

I was looking for a rear window for m1009, and I was told about a Blazer that was being parted out. Well, I get there and the only part that had been sold was the grill! Well, after I little haggling I ended up buying the whole thing. It is a '78, with 350/TH350/NP203. I actually drove it on the trailer. It was parked because one the freezeplugs on the back of the block rusted out and the guy lost interest. He said it was the third freezeplug to do that, and he said he was tired of fooling with it. It actually runs really good, and the TH350 trans shifts well. It has a 6 lug Dana 44 frontend (which I haven't ever seen before) and the 12 bolt rearend. It has pretty much brand new all terrains on the rear, and a set of fairly new Flowmasters. The body is fair except the driver's rocker. The pasenger side has already been replaced, and there's a new one for the driver's side in the back.

i like it.. it would get along well with all my other projects in the back yard. lol. btw what do you mean about never seeing the dana 44 in a 6lug? all the 1/2 tons are 6 lug as far as I know.

I"m not familiar with this vintage 4x4's. I thoughjt they came with 10 bolt frontends, but after doing some research last night, I found they were the norm.

Nice score, and sliding side windows to boot!

I have a 40K mile CUCV Blazer as well with a bad motor so I'm trying to find a cheap donor burban locally to swap the gas TBI, A/C, tilt and cruise and hopefully ever windows and locks.

The options would be cool to have, but there's no way I'd trade my 6.2 for a TBI 350. I'm getting 21-22 mpg in town, the diesels are part of what makes CUCV's cool IMO. You can score a replacement Hummer takeout 6.2 for $300 - $500 all day.

Re: I scored a rear window for M1009, and it came with extra parts!

My engine was swapped by our local police that they hydro locked and now rattles like crazy. I've been searching for a donor 6.2 or 6.5 vehicle and even one with 230K on it they still want $4K so decided to go gas.

If I could find a donor I would stay diesel. I don't trust the 6.2s in the cans that are that cheap if you can't hear it run.

There's a guy in Midland City, AL that does a compression test and runs his engines, along with cleaning them up and painting them. He gets $975 for the engine and it costs about $160 truck freight to a commercial address. I have dealt with them several times, and they are reputable people. He sells them on ebay, and has sold hundreds of good engines. I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but its something to think about.

Don't mean to hijack your thread...I pulled my 6.2 today and found they cut a few things during the swap. I have it on an engine stand now.

I'll start my own build thread now.

How much more weight does a coal burner add to the front of a truck over a smallblock?

Re: I scored a rear window for M1009, and it came with extra parts!

A SBC with cast iron intake is around 575 lbs, and the 6.2 is 701 lbs, so 125 - 150 pounds depending on options. That is one of the advantages and disadvantages to the 6.2/6.5. They are lighter than any other light truck diesel, and get better fuel mileage than the others, but the lightweight design of the block (along with IDI design) is what limits its potential for big HP. However, a 6.2 with turbo puts out 400 - 450 TQ, and actually run as good as most 350's ever did, while getting way better fuel mileage.

Re: I scored a rear window for M1009, and it came with extra parts!

Well, I decided what my plans are. I traded the truck for great running '90 Dodge D2500 with a Cummins turbodiesel and the 5 speed manual transmission. The truck is a northern truck and was parked because it had holes rust in the brake lines and a bad powersteering pump. It runs great and the tranny shifts well. I had a video of it running, but I have to upload it to my computer.

No, it belongs to my buddy that I got the Dodge from. It is a beast though. It's got a H.O. 4.0L, 5 speed tranny, dual tranfer cases (205's I think), 5.38's - 14 bolt rear and Dana 60 frontend.

I'm not sure yet. I may end putting in my ramp truck. That Cummins with the OD trans would be nice on the highway.
