Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
So, I thought I'd make a build thread on the diesel. Here's a little background on how I got the diesel.
A good buddy of mine had the diesel for sale for $2500. He couldn't sell it because it has a 6.2 in it and no one wanted it for that price. Well, I talked to him one day about it and he told me I could have it for less than that and I jumped on it. It had a torn seat, missing headliner and trim, but it started right up and ran like a champ. I had fallen in love with this truck when he first got it and had always told him that I wanted it, but he liked it too much to get rid of it. Well, he got a rock crawler and needed some money for more parts for it, so I got it. He also had taken the carpet out, because it was torn up really bad and he wanted to show of the clean floorboards. Well, fast forward 2 years. I have installed sound deadener on the floor and back wall and installed ACC carpet and used sill plates. I want to exchange the plastic sill plates with the stainless ones. I acquired an ABS headliner board and covered and installed it. Also, got some headliner trim, dyed it and installed it. Besides doing maintenance on the diesel, I have done nothing else besides drive the wheels off it. I would drive this truck anywhere and have driven it many many places. EDIT: Pics posted in post #16 Last edited by Stitch; 08-25-2010 at 07:45 PM. |

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
This weekend I'm trading my ccsb for Josh's (1972supercheyenne) 20" Coys and I'm also trading him a factory restored '86 front clip for his '91 burb clip. I will be installing both of these on the diesel.
Well, you can't have 20s on a stock height truck, so I rang up NORCAL SS on here and ordered DJM 3" sprindles and a DJM flip kit. I'm gonna have the front end apart for the spindle replacement and my front end is extremely sloppy, so I went to Oreilley's and ordered up new upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, steering arm, upper and lower control arm bushings. I have an extra set of control arms, so I took them down to my buddy's machine shop and had them stripped and sand blasted. I need to paint them and take them back so we can get them new bushings put in. Also, since I'm gonna have the 20s on the truck and you can see those ugly drum brakes in the rear so well, I ordered a rear disc kit from Blackbirds. Future plans for the truck include lowering, Coys, 91 burb clip, boltless bumpers front and rear, buckets and a console, new windshield and solid back window, one piece windows, and enhanced original paint so to speak And because I do custom streetrod interiors for a living, it'll have full blown doors, headliner, and seats. I'm debating on whether to put an older car dash in the truck or not. so stay tuned... I'll post some pics of the truck and parts probably tomorrow when it daylight out... Sweet! Going to be sick Chuck. If you need some very nice black leather full power buckets from a 98 Yukon let me know. I cant wait to see how this plays out. Going to be cool with the diesel. Are you still planning on turboing it?

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
oh yeah I totally forgot about that lol. I have so many parts for this truck it's unreal. I really need to stop all the other projects I have going on and actually work on it.
Just so everyone knows, I also have a complete turbo setup from a 6.5 turbo diesel including a 4911 IP and injectors and the complete serpentine belt setup. and Josh I already have blue leather buckets out of a 99 Tahoe. I also have a 70ish cup holder console |

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
Well, I just got a phone call from my wife telling me that the rear disc brake kit from Blackbirds just showed up. That's some pretty fast shipping. I ordered the kit on Monday and it went corner to corner coast to coast in two days. That ain't bad at all. I'll definitely post some pictures when I get home.

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
The stock 6.5 Turbo and manifold will require modification to the firewall a/c box just in case you didn't already know. And the down pipe and exhaust will have to be run outside of the frame rails.
Lets see some picks.

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
and here's some pics of some of the parts...haven't gotten everything in the mail yet...I'm still waiting on the spindles and flip kit...the Blackbirds kit came today minus the brackets...I called and he said he wanted to make sure of the fit on something before he shipped them...He said they would be here tomorrow...Here's what I got today...Rotors, hardware, and a hose kit...
and here's a picture of all the bushings and joints to rebuild the front suspension and steering...I also have pads front and rear...I still need to get the sway bar bushings... and here's the snail and the turbo intake...the thing to the right is a 4911 IP...doesn't look like much, but its the largest mechanical IP you can get...I also have turbo injectors and the downpipe and crossover pipe Last edited by Stitch; 08-25-2010 at 07:43 PM. |

Re: Streetrod Farm Truck build..."the Diesel"
lol no...I'm going to keep the original paint...I'm going to CLR the paint and then wet sand it and clear coat it...then later on it if I get bored with the original patina of the truck, it'll get painted the factory blue and white two tone...here's a pic of what the clr does...I just did a little bit to see what it would do and show yall a pic...I'm not done with it yet, it'll need a little more clr love but it did take a ton of the rust off already...lol
from this... to this... Last edited by Stitch; 08-25-2010 at 08:23 PM. |
