Police Stoped Me to Talk about My Sons Truck!
I was driving my Sons truck Yesterday and a Policeman on a Motorcycle pulled up next to me in between me and the car next to me to tell me that I didn't have a front plate. He was really cool about the fact that I did have the plate on the dash and then he started telling me about Hide Away Plates that when you start the truck they pop out from underneath the bumper and disapear when you shut it off. Thank God he's a Chevy Lover and he told me he just wanted to let me know about the hide away plates holders that are on the market now. Needless to say I let out a loud sigh of relief when I drove off and am now looking at a Manual hide away licence braket that is about $60 verses the electric one that cost about $160. Anyway I got away without a ticket but need to make sure I got it fixed before I get in his Jurisdiction Again.

And I thought only California was limited to that stupid law.

Re: Police Stoped Me to Talk about My Sons Truck!
We have to run front plates in Ohio too, but if you get historical plates you can use the old year specific plates, then you don't have to put one on front.

Re: Police Stoped Me to Talk about My Sons Truck!
I could see how that law would seem stupid but it is actually VERY helpful in identifying stolen cars. My 2 cents

I dont mind the two licence plate law, in fact I have kind of gotten used to it. I do like the Idea of a flip plate that disapears so when you take it to a show you can tuck it away. JRBECK64 |

Here is the link to the one I found on line. It shows both the electrical motorized one and the Manual one. I figure for $100 my Son can flip it himself. Anyway here is the link, http://www.swiftmotorsports.com/index.php?cPath=2049 JRBECK64 |

Re: Police Stoped Me to Talk about My Sons Truck!
Speaking as a California, that law is ALL about revenue and not about safety. If you go through a photo enforcement intersection, they don't know who to send the ticket to without a front license plate.
I'm thinking sooner or later most states will adopt a law like that for the same reason. Oh and those photo enforcment tickets are none too cheap either. I got one and it cost me like $400!!! OUUUCH. |

Re: Police Stoped Me to Talk about My Sons Truck!
I've got a good one;
Back in '99, I bought a 67 El Camino. At the time MN refused to give anyone a front plate for anyone with a car older than 1968. Since most cops did not know this, they even gave me a photocopy of the state law to keep in the car. Sure enough, I got pulled over, at a local cruise spot. The place was full of old cars, but apparently its was that cop's first day working that area. The law changed after only a few years. Now, its optional to run the front plate before 72, but they'll at least give you both plates at the DMV. Quote:
Speaking of that one, Minneapolis tried a form of photo enforcement tickets. Not what they are doing in California, but here they would take pics of cars running red lights, and send the owner the ticket. However, since there is now way to prove the owner was driving the car, the courts shut it down, and I believe everyone may have been refunded their $$. The only bad thing is the inersections would have been safer if people knew they would get a ticket for running the light (easy for me to say not dcrining in Minneapolis much)

Out here, there are big signs that say "Photo Enforcement" and you can't miss the flash - even during the day. This method is also used for toll road drivers that don't display the proper placard or have one of those transponders in their cars. It's a BIG source of revenue and I think its only going to be used more and more. |

Well I was just happy he was a Truck Enthusiest and he didn't write me a ticket. Flip Plate on the Way and when I install it I will post some pictures of it and maybe a functional Video.
