Opinions on sneaker plugs/lake plugs
I could again use some opinions. In my never ending quest to spend money I don’t have on stuff I don’t need I’ve come up with yet another idea. Since I can’t afford fenderwell headers, I’ve been thinking about adding a pair of functional sneaker plugs behind the front tires.
My photoshop skills are pretty pathetic so the picture below is the best rendition I could create to show the concept. The pipe would actually run straight out from the headpipe, but I don’t have the ability to make it look that way. The cap may end up a bit lower, further under the fender, or below the bottom of the fender. The pipe and cap would either be aluminized steel like the exhaust pipes, or polished stainless. So what do you think – just right, one too many doodads, stupidest thing you’ve ever heard, or??? All opinions welcome, and thanks for the feedback. |

I've seen them on our trucks and they arent bad lookin,,,,But drop em out at the bottum of the fender(straight down from the Mooneyes sticker)

I really like the concept. Since you are running ramshorn manifolds it looks like a can-do project. Bigger be better, what size are you planning? Anything smaller than 2-1/2" would probably look lame, IMHO. (I have never been a fan of the small diameter "lakes" pipes that people install along rocker panels)
Wanted to do something similar on my '65 but since I run long tube headers it would require a u-tube, which gets complicated. When I made the header extensions for my Model A I incorporated header plugs. Last edited by lakeroadster; 10-08-2010 at 09:07 AM. |

This is the car that got me started thinking.
The caps appear bigger than the standard 2” type, and I think they look better than the smaller versions. I’ve also thought about a 3 bolt cap but not sure if that wouldn’t look too modern. With the road clearance I have I’m agreeing the caps ending just under the lower edge of the fenders might look best. |
