I set out a couple weeks ago to in install an Old Air Products A/C in my 71 Cheyenne. Everything was going well, removed the entire stock Heating and A/C system. When I went to remove the condenser an dryer I noticed that the radiator core support and the inner fender were completely ate away under the battery. So I removed the inner fender and rad core support to replace them. Well, I figured since I had it tore down that far that I would replace the water pump and the fuel pump since they were right there. I removed the water pump and noticed the timing cover gasket was leaking so I dropped the oil pan and removed the timing cover. Am I ever glad I did that! The sprocket on the cam had nylon teeth, 2 were gone and the nylon had cracks all over the place! The chain was also shot. Also decided to upgrade the alternator to an internal reg and upgrade the headlight harness. I don't think I can find anymore surprises because there isn't much left to be removed!

Well now that ya dropped the oil pan you know the pan gasket is going to be a leaker so ya may as well pull the engine to replace it and the main seals and while your at it the oil pump could be replaced, then again if your that far ya may as well just rebuild it. Then while the engine is out the tranny could use a new filter and gasket so ya may as well pull it too......... its a never ending kinda thing we call love of our trucks. LOL!

That will be me when I start fixing the 72. Do I drive it or restore it???

Kinda want to drive it for a while. But one small project will be the big one..

Don't replace the gas tank and fuel lines whatever you do, you'll end up with a ground up restore like me...I'm still working night and day on this one...

You should look at my build thread, what sent it a little out of control was the windshield replacement

It may be drivable now, but still lots of work to do.

yeah thats how it starts, next thing you know your blasting the frame and the truck is in a 1000 pieces.
