66 is ready for the track!!!!
Started this little 'engine swap' in February so I'd have a summer race car that didn't require the firesuit and all. well here it is cooling off and the pig is FINALLY ready to go do some T&T and working through the shift, throttle stop settings, delay, bal bla Electronics HA!!! what have I gotten myself in to!
welp, as promised, heres some update pictures. Layout inside became a TOTAL re-wire, building a new dash (even has LED turn indicators and bright indicator and it all works!!! LOL) Getting the electronics, Co2 bottle , and all at hand proved to be more up comlex than I dreamed. But bending up a 'tree' from 1-1/4" tubing worked out pretty good. OK.... Track is open for T&T this friday so with 2 seconds in the delay, and a 6000 rpm shift we'll see how much more it has to be slowed down :-)

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Marv, it sure is prettier than my junk.. Can wait to see what she runs. I have a more recent motivation to get mine looking like something. (Thanks). It should be getting the 10 point CM cage here in the next couple months. Danielle and I are also in the process of looking for a new house to buy. When that happens and we get settled in, truck will get body work and a complete rewire. Not only do I have to try and keep up with you down the strip, but I need to make it look at least half as good as yours..

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Thanks guys. Yeah Chris,, I have to order another box of foam. The 'remnants' I found to make the top of the airpan seal look a little tattered. But the lexan airpan is one of my 'things' It works great. Lexan is such cool stuff. Bend it 90° in a sheet metal brake, shear it with a shear, glue it together with plastic glue, use 100% silicone to seal it and it makes a darn near indestructable air pan.
I think I'll have to haul over to speedworld and beg Rich to give me a 10.0 tech and turn this thing loose just for a few passes. ;-) Shaun,, I have a 12 circut ARC touch panel in the Nova (and love it) and even tho I kept the trucks fuse block for the turn signals, lights and such, I put a 8 circuit touch panel (activated by the key) to operate the delay, fuel pumps, H20 / fans, trans cooling fan, start, ignition, etc. Comes with enough wire to do a normal race car. Only problem with them is you HAVE to find some way to de-activate it or the lighted panel will drain the battery in just a few days.

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Welp,, first pass I took it nice and easy just feeling everything out. Disabled the throttle stop, changed from a timed shift to shift by rpm, set the 1-2 & 2-3 shift to 5800. Brakes pulled HARD to the right coming up to stage so was goiing to make a nice soft pass. launched at 1/2 throttle, rolled into it slowly till it shifted 1-2,,, then rolled it to the floor to just about 1200'. Went 11.06 lifting to 119mph. Was just easy on the brakes on the top end and she slowed down fine. Tech didn't whine so... 2nd pass were gonna let it eat :-)
reset the shift for a 1-2 of 6500 and a 2-3 at 6800 (love the Dedenbear box!!) reset staging rpm to 4800 so it doesn't flash the converter too hard (traction was 'iffy') Rolled in to stage, off the button on the top bulb, mat the throttle and.... BANG, broke the left axle instantly at launch. Destroyed the aerospace caliper, rotor, but the bearing retainer did it's job and kept the wheel in place. Was a little spookey there sideways and no brakes, but got it out of the groove and stoped without incident (puking brake fluid every time I even thought touching about the brake pedal). Other than having only 1 wheel drive and NO brakes,, was able to limp it back to the pit and into the trailer. So tomorrow will assess the damage and start working up the order for a set of Mark Williams axles. That's the only axle I havent been able to tear up!!!

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Nice numbers for an easy pass. Sorry to hear about the brakage, but I'm sure you'll have it back together soon enough. I'm gonna have to look in to a Deadenbear at some point..

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Hate to hear you broke it, but it could have been a lot worse.
Sounds like some good numbers for an easy pass. Let us know when you get it put back together and make some hard passes with it!

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
This the the 2nd axle I've broke in the truck, and lost one in the Nova a few years ago. Been REAL fortunate,,, the stars were aligned just right and (knocking hard head against wooden desk,,,, ) and have never been into the wall.
And I was worried if the locker was going to take the stress... LOL

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Wow, when I said it exploded an axle,,,,, I can't say as I've ever seen one shatter like this and only be TWO pieces (that I could find anyways. Sure there is more in the bottom of the case)

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
I think it should be around what I had hoped for once I get everything sorted out Chris. That's if I can keep the thing together!

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
If this is the one he had me do a performance trends engine analyzer on, I think it made almost 800hp on an engine dyno..

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
That was the one currently in the Nova Shaun, this was it's predecessor,, the devils motor. Made '666' on the same reputable Superflo in Tucson.

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Well Marv, keep us up to speed on it. I'm curious to see what it runs on a good pass!! Once you get the bugs worked out of it, it'll be good to go. Hopefully, you don't have any more bugs hiding in it!!

Re: 66 is ready for the track!!!!
Marv what kind of rear are you running in the truck? What brand of axle and spline count? I have always run 35 spline moser stuff in 9 inch rears and I have never broken an axle Knock on wood. I have seen one of my buddies break a strange 33 spline but it was a really old race car.
