FNG from Oregon '78 C20

Hi All,

First post here.

Perusing the internet for different ideas/parts for my "new" truck I came across your website. Seems like a great place. Hope to glean a lot and maybe even add a little to the discussion if I can.

My wife let me buy an ole pickup from a fried's parents. It is a 1978 Chevrolet C20 2wd Camper Special. Its pretty stripped down, but I didn't/don't want a lot of bells and whistles. Its got a 350, 4spd (3spd plus a low gear) and a 14-bolt rear end. Its got some rust on it (through it) in some places that I think I'd like to remedy at some point in time, get it straightened out a bit and maybe some paint... make the truck worth washing. Took the stereo out that my friend had installed when he drove the truck as a high school student. It'll need a new battery sooner than later, but has almost new tires along with a rebuilt engine and newer clutch/pressure plate/throw-out and pilot bearing. All this for only $500.

Not totally new to the scene; had a few muscle cars when I was younger and a '74 K5 when I was in skool. That was all years ago and they're all gone now, so I'm pretty sure I'll need a lot of help with my pickup along the way.

Couple pics.

The truck as I bought it. Have since taken the spear tire off the front bumper (a bit too redneck for me) and have also taken the molding off the side (it was falling off the other side)


The door sill: this is on both sides of the cab had some rust on it and through it. Got the wire wheel out and got the rust off then just put some black Rust-Oleum over the bare metal. This is getting into areas of the truck I know nothing about. I think I did a quick little stop-gap, but don't know if this can be cut out and repaired, or if I need to start looking out for a new cab.


...and that old 1974 K5 Blazer. The day after I bought it the top came off and didn't go on until I sold it a few years later. It was a lot of fun when I was in skool. Had a 454 and TH350, a bit of a lift and 33-inch BFGs. Got an awesome front bumper on it and a couple extra lights. That thing was a ton-o-fun, went everywhere, got me into (and out of) bunches of trouble. Kinda miss it.
