Transmission vent line or transfer case vent line. Your truck must be 4x4 if it is extended to the bed.

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
you sure it aint the vent line for the rear end and not the transmission? I've seen diff. vents bolt to the bed but never a trans vent.

it's ok man don't be sorry about it, if you don't ask you don't learn. I'd bet it is for the diff. and it just bolts to the bed with one bolt it's a breather, just rubber hose with a funky end on it to let it vent.

Breather for the differential, they (trucks) should all have this.

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
some of my current process...im trying my hand at body work...not a body guy at all...but ey, this forum makes me think i can give things a shot. might have issue with bed tho...2 of 8 bolts came out ok. the other 6 spun in bed. so now im wondering what ill need to do to get the bed back on and held in place. thought bolts were supposed to stay put while nuts came off... ill post pics tomorrow of this. since bolts spun, my under the influence buddy said we should cut em off... think he did more harm than good. anyway, this is where i stand for now. need to buy a gun to spray primer...not sure which one... need to finish body work... gonna try and get flip kit ordered so i can do it while beds off....im gonna try it...no a mechanic by any means... need to... need to.... well you know how it goes. thanks for replies different pics of truck... |

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
you can do it, body work is easy. As for a spray gun I got a cheap devilbiss from lowes cost like $50 it's a suction gun not gravity feed, and I've used it over and over, primer and paint.
As for primer though any bare metal spots you should use self etch primer or epoxy, because if it sits in primer it will rust. Unless you paint it pretty quick after primer. I've never done a flip kit myself, worried about cutting the frame. The flip kit itself would be easy I'd do it anyday, just cutting the frame scares me. I hear you can do a flip w/o a notch but if you haul you'll need a notch, and you have to remove the factory bump stop in back.

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
well i was thinking about getting a gun from home depot. but was not sure if i needed a better gun. something with guage on it so i know where i need to be. i have a couple cans of self etching primer. but think i might just spray it all one time. ill quick sand any flash rust before spraying..guy at my wifes work sent me a bit of primer and activator, tinted blue.
figure when im ready, ill do front end with it and see how it comes out. wasnt sure if i should use the self etch stuff for roof and hood now and then spray over it? paints gonna have to wait till spring. money it tight. i have a guy that might be able to cut and weld notch in for me. so i figure i might try and get the rear down while cabs off. spindles will be another project. hope all goes well there....agian. not a mechanic.. been and still looking for diy with pics..lol |

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
diy pics of spindles or paint jobs? I got alot of paint jobs, actually doing spindles now, removing them to do ball joints on dad's 84 c10.
As for the self etch, only over bare metal, you shouldn't use it over old paint of body work, they say there's a chance the acid in it can get under the edges and lift the paint of bondo and cause a big mess after it's painted. I just personally used it over my cab corners that I did body work over, it's only been a couple months so far no cracking out. I also used it over some old paint and primer on the 85 mcss I had, it still fine. Just to be safe, use it on bare metal only, then you can let it dry, wet sand and spray the whole thing with some sealer or other primer

Re: took bed off sat... one bolt under bed from trans??
The differential vent you asked about was probably bolted to the bed itself for clearance away from the passenger side tail pipe, stock it was bolted to the frame right in the path of the passenger side tail pipe. As long as you keep it up high or put it back on the bed like it was it will be fine.
Here's a pic of mine. notice where it goes up to the frame... yeah it was moved for exhaust. as long as it's high up and won't get burned you'll be fine. |

i will be bolting it right back up where it was when bed goes back on. as long as there are not issues after its lowered. |
