Carpet install

I 'am getting ready to put carpet in my truck& a friend asked me if it needed to be glud down or something else. I had not thought about it and don't know, can someone please answer this for me .THANKS MIKE

The carpet doesn't get glued down. However the jute backing or sound deadener does.
Then you put the carpet over it. Are you using a carpet that's moulded to fit?

I got the carpet kit from Jim Carter in January. Its nice, but it's going to be larger than your cab. so, have a good box cutter on hand and a few replacement blades. I put down sound deadener as well. It makes a world of difference if you want a quieter ride. I didnt glue the carpet down because you might have to get into the trans tunnel for something. It would be a shame to ruin good carpet for something like that.

i got "fat mat" deadener. its cheaper than the name-brand stuff. a lot cheaper.

THANKS,This is what I thougt but didn't know for shure.I got carpet from STOCK INTERIORS, it's fitted and I see what your saying about the box knives.I've already put down sound deadner, now for the carprt. AGAIN THANKS MIKE

How far under your seat does the carpet go?

The carpet goes back to the gas tank,would go to back of cab if you pulled the tank.

may I recommend doing the peel and seal before you do it. I did it and it makes a big difference. I have that, then the underlay stuff and then the carpet.

3M makes a spray adhesive that works great for that. I didn't glue mine down quite yet, but I will after paint...

^^^I've always had great results using this method. I think the "Fat Mat" is a "peel and seal" type insulator as well.

I got the peel & seel from ebay about $75 to do my truck with alot left. Works better when it's warm out, doesn't stick good if it's cold but not to hard to do.

Looking for help, I am installing gas pedal "with carpet". She is a 1965 c10. My question is how to cut the carpet; is it "cut just around the pedal studs", or is it "cut a slit between the studs", then slip th lower flat portion of the pedal under the carpet through that slit?

I didn't keep the stock gas pedal since my truck is DBW, but when I put carpet in...the pedal stud could unscrew from the floor. I'm not sure if thats normal, but if so I'd think it would be easiest to just use a ice pic to find the hole, then cut a small X with a knife and see if you can fit the stud in there.

Thanks for the reply, I had not thought of screwing the studs back down onto the carpet! Great idea, might put some washers under them to help hold the carpet down better too, I'll give it a try, and let you know

I ended up just removing a bit of the jute padding on the carpets backside at the pedals location. I have sound-deadening material down, so it was too thick at the pedal site. Problem solved!

How far to the firewall does the carpet go? Does it go over, or under the rubber/jute firewall pad?

Only goes about half way up the fire wall, where the floor stops angling into the firewall. Mine overlaps the jute.
