A good drum to disk donor ?
Have '70 c30 that I would use/enjoy a lot more if it had disks up front. Found this on Craigs list "1981 Chevy one ton chassis with 10,500GVWR. Has 454 big block motor from the late eighties with very low miles. Runs great. Four speed transmission with granny gear was rebuilt. Cab has rust. The 12' long rear rack is a glass hauling rack with some rust. Tires are like new. Corporate 14 dually rear end. Brake lines should be checked to make road worthy. Would make a great wood hauler. The running gear alone is worth the asking price and scrap out the rest. Email to see the vehicle or for more information." Would also consider swapping out the 350 for the 454, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: A good drum to disk donor ?
Any 73-87 C30 trucks would be a great parts donor for your '70 C30.
You will need to swap the a-arms with the spindles or install 73-87 ball joints into your '70 a-arms. You will also need to swap the outer tie rod ends. I would just take all the steering components from the donor, including the P/S box if you don't already have one. Donor trucks are really great to use,... because you can disassemble it, rebuild and paint everything, and then do the parts swap in a weekend.

Re: A good drum to disk donor ?
I agree with lolife99. Any 73-87 c30 would be fine.
Also, CPP sells the adjusting sleeves for the tie rods. They are machined one size on one end, and a different size on the other. So you can use your stock inners, and donor trucks outters. And just a quick suggestion...replace all the ball joints, bushings, and any other "wear" items while its all apart, that way you know you wont have any issues once everything is bolted back up, and if there are any problems after doing the swap, you know it wont be because of a worn ball joint or worn bushing. Plus, its just so much easier to do it when your at this stage since everything is apart already then to do it months down the road after everything is all bolted up. |

Re: A good drum to disk donor ?
My plan would be to swap complete cross members, after rebuilding the one fron the '81, possibly swapping stock spindles/springs for dropped units. 454 good swap for the 350, in the big girl ?

Re: A good drum to disk donor ?
You can swap the entire crossmember,... but it's not necessary.

Bought the donor '81 1 ton, has 6 like new michelins, 454 came from a late '80's municipal cube van w/30,000 miles at time of install, plan is to use front end for disk conversion, 454 to replace 350 and sell whats left and scrap out steel racks and frame. wthanks in advance for all the questions I will be asking. lol
