The 64 burb that got away.....

My first truck, a '64 GMC suburban. It was the aqua teal color on bottom with the white around the windows and such.....305 V6, 2 speed powerglide....man I miss that thing.

I was in highschool and of course cared about how it looked more than how it ran. I painted it that orange filler primer.....looked ok but Man, now that I know more in my older age, That thing had the perfect patina'd paint, and factory engine.....man shoulda left it alone.

My dad wont even talk about it cause it makes him sick. It had that A/C box thing that hung under the dash and blew cold air...I pulled it out to paint the dash lol. He spent a lot of time tryin to get that thing workin.

eventually slung a rod in the motor....got newer truck and this one went down the road in pieces.....damn. Makes me sick too now that I think back on it.

Dont have any pics of it when I got it but heres one after I ruined it...

I used to know where it sat under a shed rotting away.....I think tomorrow I'll call dad up and see if he knows who I can get ahold of and ask about it again. I'd like to buy it back and restore it, hell at least get it back and rebuild that 305 v6 and out her back on the road.

Its amazing what you do in your stupid young years. But with no job, nobody helping you get it inspected and insured, whats a kid supposed to do! Cant drive it to school but still wanna work on it....But with the money I have thesedays and the skill and knowledge of how to make something shine I could do it justice no matter the condition its in now....

I still have my first truck. It's sitting in the driveway waiting it's turn.

I did the same with my Grandfather's '68 Coupe Deville convertible and a '57 Napco 1 ton Chevy. Wish I was double jointed at the knees so I could kick myself in the a$$ with both feet! Youth is wasted on the young I guess.

You need two tools in life: duct tape and WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, you use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, you use WD-40.

Re: The 64 burb that got away.....

Well good news today! I talked to my dad and he said he still has the motor out of the 64! 305 v6 with those cool valve covers that say gmc on em lol. It threw a rod back then, hopefully it didnt do too much damage.....

He said he'd let me have it back so I can tear it down and have my machine guy make the necessary repairs. I also found out where the truck was last seen and so I will ride out there tomorrow. Hopefully he hasn't scrapped it! I want to buy I back!
