M1009 with LQ9
Getting closer... I hope to have it running by the weekend. I know there are other people out there that have questions about doing this in a 4x4 so let me know if you have any questions.
Motor is from a 02 Caddy, comp xr275hr-12 cam, ford 30lb car injectors, 98 fbody harness, using the flexplate that came on the motor with the gm spacer between the flexplate and the converter. The converter is a hughes gm25hd (2200-2500), running a np241 from a 91 burb with the vss. The motor mount adapters are from car shop inc and are the one for the 1" set back. The motor mounts are in the factory holes. I am using a cluster from a 91 burb, gas tank and sending unit are from a 91 burb with a 96 vortec pump. The fans are from late 90's early 00 ford windstar fan. The headers are Mac Mid Lengths for a 98-02 camaro/firebird. This is my woods/hunting truck so I was not worried about clean and paint. On the camaro harness I just cut out the wire's that need constant 12v, switched 12v, ground, etc. There is a pretty good diagram on ls1 tech for the harness... about makes it too easy. Next time I would probably just spend the extra $200 for a harness already done. It is very time consuming if you do the electric fans ( I probably have 6 hours in my harness).

It runs and drives again. The IAC was giving me fits and it would crank and die. I thought the guy that tuned my computer forgot to turn the vats off but it ended up being the IAC. Only thing giving me fits right now is the speedo, it is pegged running 30mph. I am glad I didn't go with a 5.3 becasue I don't think it would have been enough motor. It runs good about like a stock Z71 i guess but this thing weighs a ton with the dana 60, 14 bolt and the h1's and 38's. I bet the is a min of 100hp loss through the drivetrain on this thing.
We are expecting some snow so when it warms back up I will get some pics and a running video. I got the stock exhaust hooked up right now but in the next week or 2 I am going to take it and get some new exhaust with h pipe and mufflers, that should free up a few ponies. |

The first picture in post number 2 is just a filter? Your new vortec fuel pump just slides into the factory blazer tank?

Yes, the vortec pump is a direct swap. The pig tail and everything plugged right in. They say it will even work on the non efi tanks with a efi sending unit but I wanted the baffles so I bought a efi tank and sender. |

this the exact same swap i want to do in my suburban, nice swap and for some power alot of people run the l92 heads on those motors as a future upgrade

It has way more power than the 6.2 diesel.... this thing will not be getting any more upgrades I have over $3500 in this swap with the cost of the trans rebuild. I want to put a 5.3 or a 6.0 in my 86 k10 next but I also have 2 more that will get this swap as well.... I need to hit the lottery

did you have any problem with the headers i was wanting some long tubes but just out of curiosity and does the vortec pump hold the right fuel pressure i see a lot of people using vette stuff but this helps me out a lot

The headers are a tight fit, the drivers side frame rail had to have about 3/16" ground off it and it had to be notched about 1/4 on the bottom for the collector flange. A set of 99 up truck headers might work better but the mac's is what I had on hand. I have not checked the fuel pressure, a bunch of people use the vortec pump with no problems, if I had to do it over again I would have used the walbro 255 pump that is a upgrade to the vortec pump.

It has been running for about 2 months now with no problems. I have installed a cage, shackle flip, and I am going to order my new rear drive shaft tomorrow from Denny's. Here are a few pics, the shackle flip is a deal for less than $100 bucks and I got it from http://www.gatsbycars.com/chevy.html
The magnaflows are gonna get change for some knock off flowmasters... these things are way to loud with the 6.0, they were not that loud on my 67 with the ls1 but this thing is moving a lot more air. Last edited by jkade; 03-06-2011 at 05:55 PM. |

Nice! How much lift does the shackle lift give? It looks like you have around 6" of lift over 37" tires.
The Magnaflows aren't to blame, the 6.0 is. I've been going to the same muffler shop for many a year now and know the owner pretty well, he told me once the 6.0 was loud with aftermarket mufflers. If you want to tone it down, buy the biggest pair of Dynomax Super Turbos you can in the diameter you like. The M1009 looks great, nice work. |

I really like the stance with the 37s and H1s. How's the pinion angle after the shackle flip? Do the 37s clear the front ok? Sorry for so many questions I'm just tryin to figure out how exactly I want to lift my suburban.

No problem.... The pinion is pretty much pointing towards the output but I have to get a new drive shaft at some point and that is how Denny's Drive Shaft told me it needed to be for the double cardin shaft that I am going to. The 37's will get in the fender at full lock fully flexed out. Those tires are really on 36" tall so don't belive the what goodyear says.
