as for a bed you'd want a short bed from another truck to bolt on unless you got a fat wallet, then you can buy a whole bed from like lmc, a floor and bedsides, then a tailgate and front panel and hardware.

Re: Making a Lwb to a Swb
I've done it on a 71 K10. I used the method from Glock35ispc and it worked great! The problem with 73-87 is the frame dips just in front of the rear cab mounts. You might have enough room between the spring hanger and the cab mount to chop the 12". Around here, there is not much demand for swb frames so I cut them up.

Re: Making a Lwb to a Swb
I'm going to start a build thread in the 4x4 forum after I get the axles and suspension parts cleaned and painted. I have a bunch of pics of the frame work. I may start saving up short bed frames to take East along with a bunch of clean rust free cabs. I can't give them away around here so they go for scrap metal.

Re: Making a Lwb to a Swb
Your lucky there are no beds around. There a couple people around here (southwestern ontario) that go down south to buy them then bring em up to sell. Just as an example, i paid 500 for a 6' S10 box. For the square s trucks.

Re: Making a Lwb to a Swb
There's guys that have cut out sections of beds and but welded them back together, that's a lot of welding. i did the bed floor by moving the cross members and the sides I,m going to flange the joints and put rosette weld every one inch as for the taper I,ll see when i get there
well good luck JM |

Re: Making a Lwb to a Swb
I had been thinking about doing this on my 97 Dodge 2500 for a while. Just got the 85 k10, and was thinking of either shortening the wheel base, or just bobbing the back end. I don't like the departure angle with the bed.
