mustang II or s-10 frame? which is best?
I have looked at many of the s-10 frame swaps on her and also the m2 frontend, but still I dont know what would be best? I want the truck to be a show truck to build with my dad and I want it to stand out!!!
So please in your words what is the best way to go, maybe some pics of what you did to your truck. This is going to be a long project so money is not a issue because we will buy as we can to make the truck the best. please help me I didnt get much response for my other post maybe i will this one. matt |

Re: mustang II or s-10 frame? which is best?
Ditto on that. And what shape is your original frame in? If I had a real straight and solid stock frame under the truck I'd go Mustang II style. If I had no frame or one that someone had altered by torch in the past or it had way too much rust to deal with I'd go S-10
I just bought a MII crossmember and tube A arms for my 48 because I want to run a stock style frame as I feel it is a lot easier to get the sheet metal aligned right with the stock frame under the truck. It will have the MII crossmember in front. Probably Dodge Mini van rear leaves and a Camaro/Firebird ten bolt with disk brakes and Posi. |

And I'd also add are you looking at buying a kit for an s10 frame or fab yourself (if you go the s10 route)? If you're not comfortable with fab work and you don't want to buy a kit, I'd go mustang 2.
Having done an s10 swap, I'd definitely say both will be a lot of work, but the mustang 2 would be quicker to get done and have that "instant gratification" of seeing it on the ground where you want it. I do love how cheap the s10 parts are and knowing I can drive the truck anywhere and should I encounter a problem somewhere, the closest NAPA will have everything in stock to fix it.

As far as the s-10's go i have no fear when it comes to fab work haha, I have built many s-10 mini trucks. Bagged, linked, body dropped, compleat custom frames. I have also built a 31 ford rat rod in 2010. ill add a pic of it and my truck. the plus about the frame under the truck is, that it looks to be great shape, but I already have a s-10 frame here that I had for a 51 chevy b4 I got this truck, and im putting my dads on a s-10 frame as we talk... Im just stuck in the middle Last edited by matthew.doan; 01-19-2011 at 12:29 AM. |

Re: mustang II or s-10 frame? which is best?
Why not look into a Dakota frame swap, a Dakota suspension swap or a Scott Danforth cradle?
Lots of choices out there. I've done S10 and am now working on a Scott Danforth. Much easier with the body mounts, radiator support, etc. like Mr48Chev talks about and it is made for a truck not a car like the MII. Also has the NAPA factor that BlueJeep talks about being all GM Metric. i also have the rear spring kit from Kimbridge Enterprises. (http://www.kimbridgeent.com/194755chevypickup.htm) but am interested in learning more about the rear spring swap from the minivans. |
